A 239-year-old farm said no to a giant utility and won with nothing but social media and a country star

  • The Gregory farm has operated continuously since 1787 without interruption
  • TVA proposed carving a 100-foot-wide corridor through the property but faced objections
  • The route would have destroyed the farm school’s outdoor classroom completely

A multi-generational family farm that has operated continuously since the Revolutionary War has successfully blocked the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) from running a power line across its land.

The Gregory family’s 650-acre farm, founded in 1787 by a veteran of the American Revolution, faced imminent disruption when TVA proposed carving a 100-foot-wide corridor through the property.
