- The Galaxy Z Flip 8 could feature the Exynos 2600
- Samsung’s Exynos 2500 powers the Galaxy Z Flip 7
- We might see the phone appear in the middle of 2026
If you have a look at our best foldable phones list you’ll see that Samsung is well represented, and a new leak may have given us a big hint about what to expect from an upcoming Samsung foldable that’s due in the middle of next year.
That foldable is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, and according to South Korean outlet The Bell (via 9to5Google), the handset is set to go all in on the Samsung Exynos 2600 processor that’s recently been made official.
If that does turn out to be the case, the flip foldable will follow the lead of its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: that phone used the Exynos 2500 chipset exclusively, though all of the Galaxy S25 phones from earlier in the year (and indeed the Galaxy Z Fold 7) went with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets instead.
Going with Exynos will certainly save Samsung money: the Exynos 2600 is the first mobile chipset to be built using a 2 nanometer process, meaning higher transistor density, better performance, and improved efficiency. Graphics and AI capabilities have also been upgraded compared to the previous generation.
The Exynos question
Every year we find ourselves wondering how many handsets are going to get Exynos processors inside. The Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets that Samsung also uses are pricier for the manufacturer to buy in, but are generally considered to be superior in performance terms – though that can change year to year.
Last year there were rumors that problems with Exynos 2500 production were the reason that it was largely overlooked until the Galaxy Z Flip 7 came along in July 2025. The chipset also made its way into the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE that was launched at the same time, offering users a flip foldable at a cheaper price.
On paper at least, the Exynos 2600 looks like an impressive piece of silicon, and it is expected to play more of a role than the Exynos 2500 did. It looks likely to appear in the Galaxy S26+ in at least some regions, for example.
With rumors also swirling that the Galaxy S26 series might launch later in the year than the Galaxy S25 handsets did before them, we may have to wait a little longer to find out what Samsung has decided – and we will of course let you know as soon as it’s official.
