Warning! Spoilers ahead for Will Trent season 4, episode 15, “The Blank Expanse Of Nothing.”After the deadly Will Trent season 4 cliffhanger, ABC officially seals the fate of Amanda Wagner. The Ramón Rodríguez-led procedural is down to its last few episodes of the 2025-2026 TV cycle, which means that overarching narratives are starting to culminate. Much has happened in Will Trent season 4 beyond its weekly cases, as the GBI and its personnel underwent significant changes that will have a ripple effect when the show returns for its fifth year next cycle.
That said, no one could have prepared viewers for how Will Trent season 4, episode 15, “The Blank Expanse Of Nothing” ended. While Ormewood and Faith dealt with the show’s case-of-the-week, Wilbur followed the lead of Adelaide following their contact in the previous week. Simultaneously, Amanda was also apparently following a lead and working with the FBI to find information on the Commander, the mysterious figured linked to James Ulster’s cult. Unfortunately, this endeavor put her life in danger, as the hour wrapped up with Wilbur finding her stabbed multiple times.
Amanda Wagner Is Confirmed To Be Dead In Will Trent Season 4
Instead of confirming the fate of Amanda, the way “The Blank Expanse Of Nothing” ended left a glimmer of hope that the GBI leader would survive the attack. After all, she was previously subjected to a near-death experience in the Will Trent season 3 finale that left people extremely worried, only for her to come out of the ordeal basically unscathed. ABC doesn’t prolong the public’s agony over this cliffhanger, however, as the network effectively confirms that Amanda is indeed dead after the multiple stabbing. Unfortunately, she won’t be as lucky as she previously was this time.

High Potential season 2 finale left Nick Wagner’s life hanging in the balance, but ABC doesn’t wait until next fall to confirm Steve Howey’s fate.
Not long after Will Trent season 4, episode 14 ended, it was officially announced that Sonja Sohn is officially leaving the series, which means that her character is definitively dead. This marks the first time in the show’s history that it is saying goodbye to a main character — let alone an original one. Previously, there were hints of Angie’s Will Trent exit, but it’s difficult to imagine that ABC will write out another series regular after Amanda’s death.
What Amanda’s Death Means For Wilbur & The Rest Of GBI
To say that saying goodbye to Amanda will be difficult is an understatement. She has been the undisputed leader of the GBI since Will Trent premiered, so her loss will have a ripple effect on the future of the agency. Primarily, this opens a spot for Will Trent to introduce the organization’s new leader, which will shake things up for the procedural. Showrunners Liz Heldens, Daniel T. Thomsen & Karine Rosenthal already commented on the matter, essentially saying that this tragedy will be the launching pad for more narratives moving forward, especially with regard to Wilbur’s personal arc.
Aside from being his boss, Amanda also served as his quasi-mother in Will Trent, protecting him from harm, supporting him in his endeavors but also calling him out when he starts to spiral. There’s no doubt that Wilbur and the rest of the team will stop at nothing to bring justice for Amanda’s death, which means that this narrative involving Adelaide has just significantly become more intense. Beyond the current year, this tragedy will likely continue to mold Wilbur’s arc when the ABC procedural returns next TV cycle.
