After Just 10 Days, Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Bigger Than The MCU’s Last 3 Movies Combined

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on such a tear at the box office that it’s already beaten the last three Marvel Cinematic Universe movies combined. There was always an expectation that Sony and Marvel Studios’ fourth solo film for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would be a big financial hit. The previous trilogy grew in popularity with each entry, culminating in Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s $1.9 billion haul (without China).

In a post-Avengers: Endgame landscape, the Spider-Man franchise has been the lone consistent bright spot. There have been other successful releases since 2019, but there have also been multiple underperformers and flops. Now that Brand New Day has made well over $1 billion, Holland’s movies are responsible for three of the four MCU movies to surpass that milestone during the Multiverse Saga.

What makes Brand New Day‘s box office haul so impressive is the speed at which it’s done. The movie has been the fastest to every domestic box office milestone in history, putting it on track to become America’s #1 movie of all-time. It was the second-fastest movie to reach $1 billion globally (only behind Endgame), and has now accumulated $1.6 billion after only 10 days.

It’s a phenomenal performance for the MCU, especially considering that Brand New Day has already made more in this short span than the last three MCU movies made in totality. Captain America: Brave New World ($415.1 million), Thunderbolts* ($382.4 million), and The Fantastic Four: First Steps ($521.8 million) combined to make $1.3 billion over months in theaters. Spider-Man managed to topple them all in just over a week.

How Spider-Man: Brand New Day Beat The MCU’s Prior Movies So Easily

There are many factors in play for how Spider-Man: Brand New Day got this accomplishment. For starters, the movie has the benefit of having the most recognizable Marvel character of the bunch. It also had the most clear momentum and general interest behind it.

Spider-Man is an infinitely more beloved character than anyone else featured in the previous three MCU movies. Audiences have spent a decade with this specific iteration of the character, and Holland has done such a fantastic job, he’s often considered to be the best live-action iteration of Spider-Man. Given the web-slinger’s iconography throughout history, there is an immediate draw that new movies with him have.

That gave Brand New Day a baseline level of success that the prior MCU films never had. Sony and Marvel also masterfully built anticipation for the sequel. Taking a small page from No Way Home‘s playbook, they leaned into the secrecy surrounding Sadie Sink’s character and positioned Brand New Day as an event people had to see in theaters.

This helped save the movie from dropping from No Way Home‘s box office even though Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and multiversal villains don’t appear. Rather than lose audiences’ attention by going down to the street-level story, Brand New Day found a smart way to maintain a must-see quality, aided by featuring Hulk.

So when the very positive reviews hit and generated the impressive 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences had no reason to question if Brand New Day was worth waiting to see on streaming. Realistically, it was always likely that the movie would outgross Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and Fantastic Four at some point, but the massive excitement levels made it possible to do so this quickly.

Brand New Day’s Box Office Milestone Reflects The MCU’s Riskier 2025 Movies

It’s also worth noting that the MCU’s last three movies were swings with unproven characters. Sam Wilson may have been in multiple MCU movies and headlined a Disney+ series before Brave New World, but whether he could headline a solo film as Captain America was untested. Yelena Belova and the rest of Thunderbolts* characters have their fans, but general audiences don’t know them, especially if they stayed away from the MCU’s Disney+ shows.

Similarly, Fantastic Four was the MCU’s reboot of a property Fox floundered with twice before this century. These characters might be beloved in the comics, but general audiences have never shown as much interest in them as the X-Men, Spider-Man, or Avengers.

While there were wins among the MCU’s 2025 movies, none were truly smash hits. First Steps became the highest-grossing Fantastic Four movie, but even Kevin Feige admitted the $521 million haul was lower than Marvel and Disney hoped for. Sam Wilson’s first solo film only made $45 million more than Steve Rogers’, and that’s without factoring in inflation. Meanwhile, Thunderbolts* would’ve been better off if Marvel fully leaned into The New Avengers soft-rebranding.

With no massive $750+ million performer among the group, the 2025 MCU movies made it easy for Brand New Day to beat them. The movie could have made $600 million less than No Way Home and still achieved this goal by the end of its run. Instead, Spider-Man blew past that figure with ease to really put the underwhelming box office performances in Marvel Studios’ rearview mirror.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Could Add Another Movie To This Accomplishment

Shockingly, Brand New Day may not be done. There is now an opportunity that it could extend this accomplishment to four movies. If it maintains excellent legs from this point forward, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s $1.3 billion gross could be added to the sum and still come up short of Brand New Day‘s total.

This would require the Spidey flick to make $2,657,470,878 by the end of its run. That seems far-fetched at first, but then its worth remembering that the movie is already at $1.665 billion after 10 days. It needs $992.3 million from day 11 until its out of theaters to do this.

A $2.6 billion global finish is on the high side of current estimates for Brand New Day‘s final total. It will take an incredible performance for it to get there, but that can’t be ruled out after what we’ve seen from the first 10 days. All signs point to Brand New Day continuing to dominate at the box office and be the #1 movie for audiences for weeks on end.

Should this happen, it will be one of the final milestones in a remarkable performance for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The movie would wind up making more than the MCU’s entire 2024 and 2025 movies all by itself. That’d make Spider-Man a bigger draw than the combination of Deadpool, Wolverine, Captain America, Yelena Belova, Sentry, the Fantastic Four, and more.
