After Watching The Boys Season 5’s First Episodes, I’m Worried About An OG Character

The Boys‘ long-awaited final season started off with a bang, wasting no time in setting the tone for the coming episodes while proving that everyone is in danger. Heading into season 5, audiences were preparing themselves for some big losses, having spent around seven years getting to know and growing attached to these characters.

Fans may have thought they would get at least a few episodes before some of their favorites started to fall, but A-Train’s death in The Boys season 5’s premiere proved that no one was safe, creating a worrying road ahead. Theories have been floating around for a while about who will live and who will die, but one OG has me particularly concerned.

Ever since the first season, MM has been a staple of The Boys, being an integral part of the main group and more often than not, its moral compass. He’s the first to try and draw a line regarding how far the team will go in its attempt to stop Vought and Homelander, yet he’s still willing to get his hands dirty.

Unfortunately, despite being the most pragmatic member of the team in The Boys season 5, MM is arguably the most vulnerable too, especially after those opening episodes. Other than Hughie, he is the most likely to hesitate when it comes to taking a life, and he’s also guilty of trying to defuse any tension, rather than choosing the easy option.

Most problematic of all though, MM just got a huge win in The Boys‘ latest premiere, which instantly puts him at risk of being on the chopping block.

Why I’m Worried About MM’s Fate After The Boys Season 5’s First Two Episodes

A-Train was The Boys season 5’s first major casualty, but his departure made sense since he completed his character arc and finally redeemed himself. Assuming this is a sign of things to come, MM may be the next main hero to go, as killing Love Sausage was a big step towards completing his journey.

Although Homelander has been The Boys’ main target throughout the series, MM has managed to stumble into a personal feud with Love Sausage out of pure coincidence. Having first encountered Love Sausage when the supe tried to strangle him in Sage Grove Center back in season 2, the two then crossed paths again during “Herogasm” in a more humorous scene.

The next time they met was in The Boys season 4’s finale, where Love Sausage ambushed MM in a public toilet, knocking him out, hence why he was in the Starlight interment camp come season 5’s premiere. However, MM finally got his revenge, as he decided to fight Love Sausage one-on-one after being taunted earlier in the episode.

Using only his bare hands, MM somehow got the better of his foe, despite not taking Temp V beforehand. Targeting the villain’s abnormally large penis — Love Sausage’s main power — MM managed to wrap it around Love Sausage’s neck and choke him out, giving the antagonist a poetic ending.

In theory, this should be great news, as it gives the hero a much-deserved win over his nemesis and means The Boys have one less supe to deal with. However, no ordinary human has had the luxury of straight-up beating a supe in hand-to-hand combat in the manner MM did, suggesting his unfinished story beats are being tied up.

While The Boys season 5 episode titles hint that MM may survive until later in the season, the show is bound to have lots of major twists, and an early death for such a beloved character would be huge. Considering MM also showed off his more sympathetic side by letting Countess Crow live, it feels like his arc is coming full circle.

The character’s more positive moments therefore signify that a dark turn may be imminent, hence why these first two episodes are actually extremely worrying for MM fans.

What Needs To Happen With MM’s Story Before His (Potential) Death

With MM’s story heading towards a close one way or another, The Boys needs to make sure it does a few final things before killing him off, should that be his fate. Firstly, the inspirational figure must rediscover his hope, as season 1 indicated that he has become much more vengeful and pessimistic, which his decision to fight Love Sausage plays into.

He didn’t believe that he, Hughie, or Frenchie would ever get out of the internment camp, which made him eager to take on Love Sausage, even when freedom may have been achievable. His decision to trust Countess Crow and let her go in episode 2 was a sign that hope is coming back, but we need MM back to his best.

Additionally, the OG Boys member deserves the opportunity to reunite with his family and make peace with them once and for all. Throughout the series, MM’s relationship with his ex-wife has been rocky, which has played into his overall connection with his daughter.

Assuming he gets his hope back, it would be nice to see him accept that there is a chance he won’t see his family again, but speak confidently with them regardless. This would also set up the final piece of his journey of overcoming his trauma with Soldier Boy.

While MM’s main supe feud has been with Love Sausage, Soldier Boy is the villain he truly hates, as he was responsible for killing his family. Considering Soldier Boy will be a major part of The Boys season 5 now that he’s returned, MM deserves a chance to confront him once and for all.

He did partially back in season 3, but while Soldier Boy’s supposed death offered him some peace, MM clearly still feels a sense of trauma, as shown by his anxious reaction to hearing he’s alive. Once The Boys has allowed MM to overcome this, then they can give him a more permanent end, even though we’ll hate to see him go.
