Prime Video has released the first official image of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft for its forthcoming Tomb Raider TV show.
Uploaded today (January 15) on the streamer’s various social media accounts, the professional snap shows Turner wearing Croft’s iconic costume. Indeed, from the teal tank top and red-tinted sunglasses to the chunky belt and classic dual handgun holsters strapped to each leg, Turner certainly looks the part for Croft’s latest live-action reimagining.

The image unveiling comes five months after Amazon announced Turner would portray Lara Croft in its Tomb Raider TV adaptation.
Back then, long-time fans of the action-adventure game franchise were distinctly unimpressed by Turner’s hiring. However, in the hours since this picture debuted online, many have performed a full U-turn and had only positive things to say. Indeed, a thread on r/tombraider is full of users praising how Turner’s resemblance to Croft and how seriously Amazon is taking its small-screen adaptation.
It’s certainly a marked change in tone from Tomb Raider devotees about the Phoebe Waller-Bridge-developed series. And, with Amazon confirming the cameras have started to roll on the new Prime Video show, the countdown is officially on for its eventual release on one of the world’s best streaming services.
Who else is part of the Tomb Raider TV show’s cast? And when will it be released?
Right now, the latter question can’t be answered. Amazon has indicated when its Tomb Raider TV show will see the light of day but, with principal photography now underway, we can’t rule out a mid- to late 2026 launch.
As for the other query, Amazon confirmed a four famous faces would star opposite Turner on January 6.

Those notable cast additions are acting icons in Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie, and Bill Paterson. Joining that quartet and Turner on the show’s roster are seven not-so-well-known individuals – but, thanks to a recent Amazon MGM Studios press release, we know who each actor will be playing:
- Martin Bobb-Semple as Zip, Lara Croft’s long-standing tech support and friend
- Jason Isaacs as Atlas DeMornay, Lara’s uncle
- Bill Paterson as Winston, the long-standing Croft family butler
- Jack Bannon as Gerry, Lara’s personal pilot and snack collector
- John Heffernan as David, an exhausted government official who finds himself tangled up in Lara’s unusual world
- Celia Imrie as Francine, the Head of Advancement at the British Museum, focused solely on raising funds and glasses of champagne
- Paterson Joseph as Thomas Warner, a senior government official brought in to clean up an almighty mess
- Sasha Luss as Sasha, a fierce, deeply competitive new adversary of Lara’s
- Juliette Motamed as Georgia, a devoted, by-the-books curator at the British Museum, dedicated to the ‘proper’ preservation of history
- Sigourney Weaver as Evelyn Wallis, a mysterious, high-flying woman who is keen to exploit Lara’s talents
- August Wittgenstein as Lukas, an illegal raider who shares history with Lara in more ways than one
It remains to be seen how all but three of the above characters – Zip, Atlas, and Winston have appeared in various Tomb Raider games – will factor into the story that Prime Video will tell. I’m sure we’ll learn more in the days, weeks, and months to come, though.
