As Taylor-Joy’s voice echoes around theaters globally, her face is back in the streaming charts, thanks to the success of an underrated sci-fi horror effort from 2025. Starring Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller as highly-trained operatives assigned to keep guard over a mysterious gorge from opposite sides, The Gorge was released to mixed results in February 2025, scoring just 62% from critics on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus on the site reads, “Mixing multiple genres, The Gorge makes for a surprisingly endearing romance until its action-thriller obligations steer proceedings back onto a more predictable path.”
Under the directorial eye of Scott Derrickson, the man behind 2016’s Doctor Strange and the Black Phone horror movies, Taylor-Joy and Teller crafted one of 2025’s most underappreciated movies that, over a year on, is continuing its bid to be called one of Apple TV’s best originals. At the time of writing, The Gorge is back in the Apple TV top ten in the U.S. from all Amazon channels, and places second in the global top ten on the streamer, losing out only to the blockbuster racing flick F1.

What Did Collider Say About ‘The Gorge’?
Although the film earned a larger proportion of positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, one critic who was much less impressed with the film was Collider’s Therese Lacson. In her review, she scored the sci-fi film just 4/10, saying, “At the end of the day, no one was going into The Gorge expecting a theatrical masterpiece. But, if you’re looking for a popcorn Valentine’s movie, one that is seemingly tailor-made for the average couple with equal helpings of romance and action (even with a few jump scares so you can hide in your loved one’s arms), then you need look no further.”
