After appearing in what is frequently cited as one of the best Assassin’s Creed games ever made, Edward Kenway, AC Black Flag’s roguish protagonist, has been long deserving of his own trilogy. Sadly, unlike Ezio before him, Kenway was restricted to just one game, at least until Resynced came along. It introduced a swathe of new story moments and cutscenes, alongside some much-needed improvements, and, while certainly not a new game, serves as his reintroduction to the world of gaming and a great opportunity for fans to spend a little more time running around the West Indies in his shoes.
Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the end of it as, with Resynced becoming one of the highest-rated Assassin’s Creed games in quite some time, Edward Kenway is set to return once more, only this time in a rather unexpected way. While many may be hoping the legendary icon would be getting an official sequel of sorts, Kenway’s latest adventure takes him into a whole other universe, one that is sure to still please fans of Ubisoft’s work.
One of Ubisoft’s next big games set to release in 2026 is the upcoming and highly-anticipated Rayman Legends Retold, a remake of the 2013 classic (and also the 2017 “Definitive Edition” version), which served as the iconic character’s final mainline entry. It is a huge win for fans of the character and Ubisoft’s old-school platforming endeavors, which have sadly been lost to time, but, crucially, should also be worth celebrating for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag fans, as Edward Kenway is set to make an appearance.
For the 2013 version of the game, those who pre-ordered the PlayStation 3 edition were treated to an Edward Kenway-themed skin. It translated Kenway’s iconic blue and white hooded costume to Rayman’s legless form surprisingly faithfully, and became a fan-favorite skin fairly quickly. Fortunately, it is making a return in the Retold edition, only this time it isn’t console specific. The skin is set to release on all platforms, meaning no one will be locked out of it like they were when Rayman Legends first launched.
It isn’t particularly surprising that Edward Kenway made his way into the original Rayman Legends. Aside from being one of the most beloved Assassin’s Creed protagonists of all time, Legends released just shortly before Black Flag in 2013, so the crossover made a lot of sense. Other Ubisoft characters, including Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher and Aveline from Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation also made it into the game. It remains to be seen if any other new collaborations based on more recent Assassin’s Creed or Ubisoft properties will make their way into Rayman Legends Retold.
However, at the very least, Edward Kenway and, more broadly, AC Black Flag fans can rest easy that Ubisoft has revived this iconic skin for the remake. It’s been rebuilt like the rest of the game’s assets, so players can expect a beautiful HD 3D model of the skin. While not quite the sequel Edward Kenway deserves, or even just a new Assassin’s Creed spin-off, it is at least a fun addition to another beloved Ubisoft series that is sure to delight fans.
