Airing for four seasons before coming to a thrilling end back in 2023, Attack on Titan has cemented itself as one of the greatest pieces of television of all time. The story, created by Hijame Isayama, was adapted from a manga into an anime series back in 2013, with the plot taking place in a post-apocalyptic world where the remains of humanity live behind walls in order to protect them from Titans, giant humanoid creatures who threaten their very existence.
Praised for its storytelling, animation, action, characters, voice acting, and dark themes, Attack on Titan gained widespread popularity, and despite coming to an end back in November 2023, it still remains one of the most talked about anime of all time.
However, as well as being a hit manga and anime series, Attack on Titan has also welcomed various video game adaptations over the years and this upcoming release is no exception. Announced just last month during the Summer Game Fest celebrations, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force revealed the gameplay trailer for Attack on Titan 3.
Set to follow the final moments of the beloved anime series, Attack on Titan 3‘s official synopsis reads as follows:
“Engage in pulse-pounding battles against the Nine Titans—making their first appearance in the game series—and immerse yourself in brand-new story arcs. Iconic moments from previous titles have been completely reimagined to deliver a fresh experience, with the narrative carried all the way through to its dramatic climax.
“The series’ signature omni-directional mobility action has evolved to the next level, offering the most exhilarating and stylish high-speed combat in the history of the Attack on Titan game series.”
Since its announcement, Attack on Titan 3 has welcomed a 45-minute gameplay presentation and trailer, showcasing the game’s titan combat, missions, squads, and interactions between the beloved characters. Additionally, with the third installment set to feature “brand-new story content”, we can perhaps expect to see more than we did in the show’s final season.
Not only that, but with Mappa returning to create Attack on Titan 3‘s animated opening, we know that we are in store for some spellbinding visuals as they were the studio behind the last season of the show. However, it is worth noting that this opening will not launch alongside the game, but will instead appear in a later update.
Set to launch “this Winter” for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, Attack on Titan 3 is set to give fans of both the anime and previous video game installments a chance to play a part in the epic finale for the first time.
