Blade Runner Officially Returns In 2027 With A Brand-New Story

[

Blade Runner may not have been the blockbuster juggernaut one would have expected from a neon-soaked cyberpunk masterpiece by one of the world’s greatest directors, but it has sustained an impressive legacy nonetheless that, recently, has blossomed into a bevy of releases and new projects. There is, of course, the upcoming Amazon-produced TV series that looks set to capture the same excellence that 2049 delivered to the big screen all those years ago.

However, what should really be capturing fan’s attention, especially now that Blade Runner is back for good, is a brand-new project from one of the most prolific game developers in the industry. Blade Runner is shedding its silver screen shackles in favor of a wider variety of multimedia releases, and the latest to be announced is easily its most exciting, at least for those who love immersive cyberpunk projects.

Alongside the recently announced Blade Runner role-playing game that is sure to be an incredibly exciting release for fans, IP rights holder, Alcon Entertainment, has another impressive new release up its sleeve. Developed in collaboration with Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive and PHI Studio, this immersive new Blade Runner experience could be the very thing fans of Phillip K. Dick’s original vision and Ridley Scott’s neon-drenched interpretation have been waiting for.

Blade Runner: The Immersive Experience is a “multisensory experience” heading to North America in 2027 that is designed to bring users into the series’ haunting vision of the future. While details are currently scarce on what the experience will actually deliver, it has been described as “visually striking and narratively rich“, implying that it will feature a new adventure that takes place within the Blade Runner universe. The full press release goes on to say:

This multisensory experience will plunge visitors into a dystopian world that is both visually striking and narratively rich, staying true to the aesthetic and philosophical essence of the cult classic. It will combine the creative and technical strengths of Behaviour Interactive, globally recognized for its video games, and PHI Studio, a pioneer in the creation and presentation of engaging immersive experiences.

Considering it is set to release in 2027, it is possible that this could coincide with the upcoming Blade Runner TV series, which is scheduled to drop on 25 November 2026. Behaviour Interactive and PHI Studio promise to announce more details about the immersive Blade Runner experience in the coming months, with the project set to be unveiled in select North America cities in 2027. It also isn’t clear if this experience will come to the rest of the world at a later date, or will be restricted to just NA.

What is clear is that Blade Runner fans will have yet another way of interacting with its world, characters, and stories. It is great to see the franchise being given the multimedia treatment it has so readily deserved and more releases despite the relative box office failure of the existing movies. Of course, it remains to be seen whether Behaviour Interactive can pull off an immersive experience, and whether the other Blade Runner projects are also commercial and critical successes. However, considering how thus far Blade Runner has been nothing but incredible, it seems hard to truly mess it up.
