Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere universe has rapidly become one of the biggest worlds in the fantasy genre, both in terms of the amount of words written for it, and the scale of the sales for books set within it. Of all those releases, the Mistborn Saga and Stormlight Archive are the most significant, with the latter arguably the most popular in 2026.
As such, it feels like a series that’s criminally underserved in terms of additional adaptations, particularly when compared to the other heavy hitters in the genre as a whole. That said. there is a potential new release that is about to head into its first crowdfunding phase, and if you are a fan, it may well be one to get involved with at this early stage.
Over on the official Brotherwise Games website, the developer shared a post confirming that their new project, Stormlight: War for Roshar, is set to launch onto Kickstarter in the Fall of this year. With fulfillment planned for 2027, it’s a highly ambitious adaptation that will also be available to purchase from traditional retail channels, after the fact.
In confirming the news to fans, the company shared the following insight into what they might expect:
“Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere is expanding in the tabletop space with a new war game set in the world of his best-selling Stormlight Archive series. Designed by acclaimed designer John D Clair, Stormlight: War for Roshar pits the Coalition of Honor against the forces of Odium as they battle for the fate of Roshar.
“War for Roshar is an epic board game that plays one-on-one, three-vs-one, or in teams of two over eight rounds, each punctuated by a raging Highstorm or Everstorm. During your turn, you’ll fight on multiple fronts. Upgrade your leaders, deploy units, play Stormlight-powered action cards, win neutral nations to your side, and fight to control territory. Your goal is to claim strategic Oathgates while you work to score secondary objectives every round. War for Roshar offers multiple paths to victory, but all require careful management of your heroes and armies in a rapidly evolving warscape.”
The pre-launch page is live right now if you want to bookmark it, though it doesn’t yet detail anything around the various funding tiers, or what will be included for those who do choose to back the project.
More news should emerge in the coming weeks, with a full launch for the campaign likely coming in October. Aside from that, Stormlight Archive fans also have the live-action television adaptation to look forward to, while the entire Cosmere literary universe is also being fully adapted into other formats by Apple TV+.
