WARNING: spoilers for Bridgerton season 4 part 2 ahead.
Okay, don’t say I haven’t given you fair warning — there is a post-credits scene at the end of Bridgerton season 4 episode 8. It’s one you really don’t want to miss… because it’s Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie’s (Yerin Ha) wedding.
‘We wanted to give the viewers a moment to breathe’
“I’m glad you caught it. I’ve heard some people say, ‘Wait, what? There’s a wedding scene?'” Brownell tells me.
“The wedding scene was always in the script. Initially, it was going to come immediately after the main action finish, as we usually do. You fade to black, you come back up and there’s a final flash forward. But when Shonda [Rimes] and I were in the edit, we thought that so much happens at the end of this season.
“I think there’s a really beautiful Cinderella ending for Sophie and Benedict under that gazebo. You’ve got the Whistledown reveal. There’s a lot happening. So we really just wanted to give viewers a moment to breathe and let them digest before they got the wedding scene.”
Sorry, did I forget to mention that Lady Whistledown was originally no more… but now someone else, unknown to us, has taken up the mantle? Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) uses Cressida’s (Jessica Madsen) return-to-society ball to announce that she’s “hanging up her pen,” favoring to work on a novel instead.
Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to who the new Whistledown might be, but for a moment, take time out to digest the ultimate wedding of 2026… Bridgerton is giving us that room to breathe for a reason.
