How Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa’s Marriage Inspired Jeremy Allen White’s Biopic Performance

Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa are hopeful amid her remission from cancer.

The “Born in the USA” singer shared an update that Scialfa—his wife of 35 years and guitarist in the E Street Band—is now in remission after battling blood cancer since 2018.

“As you know, Patti’s been living with her multiple myeloma for over eight years,” Springsteen noted in a pre-tape played at the 47th annual PMC fundraiser Aug. 1, as captured by fan footage. “Now, thankfully, she is in remission.”

Scialfa, 73, publicly disclosed her experience with the blood disease (in which cancerous plasma cells impact the blood marrow, per the Mayo Clinic) through their 2024 documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

And now that she’s in remission, Springsteen, 76, expressed gratitude for the healthcare heroes who were at the Aug. 1 charity event, which benefited the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

“Like millions of families facing cancer, we’ve learned what every patient learns. Hope has a face,” Springsteen said. “It’s our physician who refuses to stop searching and caring. It’s our nurse who sits beside us when we’re scared and always makes our journey a little bit easier.”
