LAS VEGAS — Bruno Mars is set to have his name immortalized on the Las Vegas Strip.
MGM Resorts International announced that a parade and ceremony to celebrate the renaming of Park Avenue, the street between Park MGM, New York, New York, and T-Mobile Arena, to Bruno Mars Drive will be held on Friday, April 10.
“The procession will embody Bruno’s signature style – vibrant, dynamic and full of surprises,” MGM Resorts said in a statement to USA TODAY.
The parade will begin at 1 p.m. local time on Las Vegas Boulevard at Flamingo Road, and will proceed down the Las Vegas Strip to Toshiba Plaza, in front of T-Mobile Arena, where the renaming ceremony will take place at about 1:30 p.m. local time.
The plaza will open to a limited number of fans starting at 11 a.m. local time, and the parade can be viewed from the western side of Las Vegas Blvd.
Mars is the second performer to have a street connected to the Strip named after him. Elvis Presley Boulevard, between the Fontainebleau Resort and the Las Vegas Convention Center’s West Hall to the Westgate Hotel, is named after Elvis Presley. “The King,” according to Westgate Las Vegas, performed 636 sold-out shows at the International Hotel.
Streets named for members of The Rat Pack flank the Strip to its west.
“With streets across Las Vegas honoring legends like Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr., the addition of Bruno Mars Drive connects past and present in a city built on iconic performers,” MGM Resorts said.
The event comes ahead of the start of Mars’ “The Romantic Tour” later that evening at Allegiant Stadium. The tour is in support of Mars’ first solo album released since 2016’s triple-platinum “24K Magic.”
The 16-time Grammy winner has been a mainstay at the Dolby Live theater, which sits on the soon-to-be Bruno Mars Drive. He has performed more than 100 solo shows since his residency began there on New Year’s weekend in 2016, as well as 34 concerts as a part of Silk Sonic, according to Billboard.
Mars, MGM Resorts International President Bill Hornbuckle, and Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo are among those scheduled to speak at the event on April 10. Clark County approved the renaming of the street, KVVU-TV reported in February.
