EXCLUSIVE: Channel 4‘s The Dunblane Tapes has landed international distribution with Canada’s Serial Maven Studios.
The Dunblane Tapes explores the aftermath of the 1996 Dunblane school shooting and the grassroots campaign that led to sweeping handgun reform in the UK. Through never-before-seen footage filmed by bereaved parent John Crozier, the documentary offers an intimate account of one of the most consequential public advocacy movements in modern British history. It shows how three mothers, outraged by the fact that the gunman legally carried four handguns and more than one thousand rounds of ammunition, launched a nationwide campaign to lobby the government to ban the private use of handguns in Britain.
The doc aired on Channel 4 in February and will be presented to international buyers at Sunny Side of the Doc this month.
“The Dunblane Tapes is a profoundly human story about grief, resilience and the power of collective action in the face of unimaginable loss. While the events at the heart of the film are rooted in the UK, its themes resonate far beyond one country or one tragedy,” said Serial Maven boss Solange Attwood. “At Serial Maven Studios, we are focused on partnering with premium producers and distinctive authored filmmakers whose work brings both emotional depth and cultural relevance to international audiences.”
Attwood and Asha Daniere launched Serial Maven in 2024.
The Dunblane Tapes is produced by Candour Productions. The project was co-directed by Anna Hall and Niamh Kennedy. Hall also serves as EP, and Will Stone is producer. Shaminder Nahal is EP on behalf of Channel 4. Serial Maven oversees licensing and international production outside commissioning territories.
