Chris Evans Officially Confirmed For Avengers: Secret Wars

[

Chris Evans is coming back for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Evans last played Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. While he maintained for years that he was done with the franchise after starring in most of the biggest MCU movies, Evans would play a version of Johnny Storm in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Then, his Steve Rogers return was revealed in the first Avengers: Doomsday teaser.

According to the teaser, Steve will have retired as a hero in the upcoming MCU movie, as he can be seen picking up his Captain America suit from Avengers: Endgame and putting it away in a box. Additionally, the Marvel hero is now a father, as the first major Avengers: Doomsday story reveal was how Steve and Peggy Carter had a baby, with Captain America holding the kid lovingly.

Now, a video shared by @comicconmomsi on Instagram has confirmed that beyond his Avengers: Doomsday role, Chris Evans will be back again in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. The news was first revealed by what seemed to be a voice message that the actor left for a fan, as shared by @comicconmomsi on Instagram on March 26. In the apparent message, Evans said, “I can tell you that…I start work on the next one in a couple of months, I can tell you that.”

Evans returning for Avengers: Secret Wars, while still a major reveal, was expected from the moment that Steve Rogers appeared in the Avengers: Doomsday teaser. If Marvel was able to convince the actor to come back to play Captain America after years of Evans saying he was done with the role, then having him return for the Multiverse Saga’s finale seemed like an easy ask.

The next two Avengers movies will spotlight the actor who started the MCU, as Robert Downey Jr. returns to the franchise to play Doctor Doom, not Iron Man. Described as a master of cutting-edge technology and magic in the MCU, Downey’s Doctor Doom is bound to create some multiversal chaos. Who better to help stop him than Evans’ Captain America? The original leader of the Avengers.

Interestingly, Evans’ Marvel character was only referred to as Steve Rogers in the Avengers: Doomsday teaser, so Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson might be the only character to go by the Captain America title in the film. However, with Evans back for Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel will likely have Steve as Cap one last time before the movie reboots the MCU.
