Chrono Trigger may well be Square Enix’s most beloved cult classic, released over thirty years ago now on the SNES and becoming one of the most influential JRPGs of all time. Hopes for a proper modern remake are at an all-time high after multiple recent leaks suggest it’s already in the works at some level behind the scenes.
Though it would almost certainly be a massive success and beloved by most gamers across the board, a Chrono Trigger remake is still a controversial topic among fans, as it’s unclear whether a remake would do justice to the original masterpiece. While there’s still been no major announcement from Square Enix with details about a remake, there’s a new official Chrono Trigger release that die-hard fans can claim now (via Go Nintendo).
Chrono Trigger Is Back, And You Can Pre-Order Now
Chrono Trigger has inspired a massive audience of collectors since its release 30 years ago, and they’ll be able to claim this brand-new release come September. The FORM-ISM line of Chrono Trigger figurines, featuring the game’s iconic main characters Crono and Marle, has officially been listed for pre-orders on various online retailers, including Hobby-Genki, CD Japan, and HLJ.
The new Crono and Marle figurines are listed for pre-order at just around $50 USD, and are slated to officially ship starting in September 2026. These roughly six-inch tall figures are officially licensed by Square Enix, and you can take a look at them below.
Fans have been anticipating the official release of these new figures for months now (via Reddit) after they were spotted on display at various Square Enix pop-up stores in Japan. The wait is finally over, and if you’ve been waiting for these to finally become available for purchase, it’s probably best to reserve yours before they’re all claimed.
Chrono Trigger Remains Iconic After All This Time
Chrono Trigger‘s impact on modern RPGs is far-reaching and profound, and it remains one of the most iconic games of all time, instantly recognizable to gamers worldwide. It’s a little hard to believe there hasn’t been an official remake of this cult favorite to date, despite various leaks and rumors over the years suggesting that it’s in the works.
Debate is ongoing as to what shape a Chrono Trigger remake should take, with fans like VegetableHuman6316 on Reddit arguing for simplicity: “A remake with just a graphical upgrade is all that’s needed.” Most players have their fingers crossed for an “HD2D” remake vis-à-vis Octopath Traveller, while the worry is that something in the style of a modern remake like Dragon Quest 7 would absolutely ruin what makes the original so iconic.
Fortunately, Square Enix is likely to reveal exactly what their vision for a Chrono Trigger remake will be at some point, and it’s likely only a matter of time before they make an official announcement.
