Danny Pino Joins MGM+ Series ‘The Magnificent Seven’ Series Remake

[

EXCLUSIVE: Danny Pino (Hotel Cocaine, Mayans M.C.) has joined the series regular cast of the MGM+ series The Magnificent Seven. He joins the previously announced cast that includes Matt Dillon as Chris Adams, Will Patton as Cyrus T. Clemons, and Michael Ealy as Vin Tanner.

Set in the tumultuous 1880s American frontier, The Magnificent Seven follows seven gifted but flawed mercenaries hired to protect a peaceful Quaker village after it is massacred by mercenaries working for a ruthless land baron trying to seize their land. As the team embeds itself and prepares to defend against overwhelming odds, they grapple with a central question: Is violence acceptable to defend people whose faith is based on non-violence? The series explores the backstories of each of the Seven, what’s at stake for them, and why they choose this mission—delving into themes of honor, sacrifice, redemption, morality, and faith.

Pino will star as Santiago “Santi” Vega, effortlessly charming, stylish, and funny — a master manipulator who prefers to talk his way out of trouble. Born in San Antonio to a mother who was a maid to his aristocratic father, who refused to claim him. With no one coming to save him, Santi learned to save himself — cheating cards, running schemes, talking his way into and out of everything. When Chris (Dillon) and Vin (Ealy) find him, they don’t find a grifter– they find him mid-brawl, and it’s the knife and gun work that stops them cold. He plays the cynic, always ready with a quip, but he’s more sensitive and more haunted than he lets on.

Santi is a new character that didn’t exist in the original The Magnificent Seven (1960) or the Antoine Fuqua remake (2016).

The series is written and executive produced by Tim Kring (Heroes, Touch), alongside executive producers Donald De Line (Billy the Kid, Wayward Pines), Lawrence Mirisch, Bruce Kaufman and Matt Dillon. Casting by Seth Yanklewitz. MGM+ Studios and MGM Television Studios are producing.

Pino is an actor and director who has worked across TV, film, and theater, and has helped break the glass ceiling for Latin American actors of a generation. He was most recently seen as the lead of the MGM+ series Hotel Cocaine and as the tormented organized crime boss Miguel Galindo in FX’s smash-hit show Mayans M.C., on which he also made his directorial debut. Pino is perhaps best known for his portrayal of harmingly streetwise police detective Nick Amaro in four seasons of Law & Order: SVU, and his seven seasons playing Detective Scotty Valens on the Warner Brothers’ series Cold Case. He is repped by Gersh and manager Geordie Frey.
