Dark Souls is arguably the most iconic FromSoftware franchise of all time, with an extremely active community of players who remain dedicated to the trilogy to this day. While it seems pretty clear that Hidetaka Miyazaki isn’t all that interested in reviving the franchise anytime soon and an official Dark Souls sequel seems highly unlikely, most fans would love to see a proper Dark Souls 1 modern-gen remake.
There’s been no official word on whether FromSoft has any plans to reboot or remake any Dark Souls content, though players are wondering if the studio will ever return to the Dark Souls formula of gameplay. While Elden Ring is hugely popular for its sprawling open world, many Soulsborne fans are eager to see a new project that incorporates the dense level design from the Dark Souls series.
With new Dark Souls content seeming increasingly unlikely as time passes, hardcore fans can check out a highly requested official release from FromSoftware and Torch Torch, available to claim now (via X).
Highly Requested Dark Souls Release Finally Available
Dark Souls is officially returning thanks to Torch Torch’s new release of a highly requested piece of merch, the “Dark Souls 2: Crown of the Sunken King” T-shirt, available for purchase now at select physical retail locations in Japan and online via sites such as MamegYorai. The shirt was originally released back in 2018, but has not had an official restock in over 8 years despite popular demand.
Torch Torch officially re-launched the fan-favorite Crown of the Sunken King design on April 10, retailing for roughly $35 (or ¥5,500). It comes in two different colors (Navy Blue and Ink Black), and Licia of Lindeldt, or the “Green-Clad Pilgrim who provides various guidance at the bonfire in Majula, the base of operations for adventurers in Dark Souls II.”
The re-release features an updated “body and name tag … the silkscreen printing plate has been remade, and the ink has been reproduced to match the original.” Further, the shirt is made with high-quality fabric and features an iconic dialogue tag from Licia: “Bearer of the curse, seek misery.”
While this specific Dark Souls release may not be what most fans are hoping for, there are several unique and original pieces of gear available from Torch Torch that hardcore fans will definitely want to check out.
Will FromSoft Ever Return To The Dark Souls Formula?
Recent trends would suggest that FromSoft has moved on from the classic Dark Souls-style world and gameplay that many fans loved. While new multiplayer-focused games like Elden Ring Nightreign and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods offer their own unique takes on the Soulsborne experience, fans are eager for something that gets back to its Dark Souls roots.
Only time will tell if FromSoftware’s next major reveal will be the game that Dark Souls fans are praying for, even if it isn’t Dark Souls 4 or a modern remake of one of the originals. But a completely original and new IP that captures the essence of the Dark Souls franchise would arguably be even better.
