DC Confirms Batman & Lobo’s New Spinoff Arrives After the Supergirl Movie

[

While DC fans are more than vibrating with anticipation for Supergirl’s debut in James Gunn’s DC Universe, Jason Momoa’s Lobo has equal, if not more, hype, as most fans can agree the talented actor was born to play the role. However, June 26, 2026, isn’t the only date that fans should be marking on their calendar when it comes to some Lobo mayhem.

2026 is truly gearing up to be a phenomenal year for the Main Man, with the anti-hero not only landing his newest live-action debut in Gunn’s new DCU but also claiming his very own solo title that has been nothing short of chaotic fun with the two issues that have been released thus far.

Now, DC’s July solicitations reveal that we will also be getting a Lobo and Batman special this summer in writer Tom Taylor and artist Nicola Scott’s upcoming July 29, 2026, release of Detective Comics 2026 Annual #1, which will see the Main Man join this Batman-centric narrative for an unforgettable confrontation that any fan of Lobo won’t want to miss.

As with most annual specials, Taylor’s ongoing Detective Comics run will take a break from the main narrative to offer a one-shot story that requires no prior reading and remains accessible to those who haven’t been following the series. Detective Comics 2026 Annual #1 will see Batman falsely accused of a political assassination on a distant planet.

And as you probably already guessed, Lobo is the one who has been hired to track down the Dark Knight and bring him to justice. The official synopsis for the issue teases that Lobo will come to Earth with his bounty for Batman and will, in fact, successfully capture the Dark Knight, with the rest of the narrative focusing on Batman being in the clutches of the Main Man and being carted across the cosmos as he tries to find a way to clear his name before he’s judged for a crime he didn’t commit.

The premise of this one-shot already sounds phenomenal, and with Taylor on the story and Scott on the art, this is guaranteed to be a must-read annual. Taylor is one of the most in-demand writers on the comic scene, particularly famous within DC circles for his extraordinary Elseworlds tales such as Dark Knights of Steel, DCeased, and Injustice, as well as his multi-award-winning Nightwing run.

Scott is also exceptional in the realm of comics, famous for her work on various runs of Birds of Prey, Secret Six, Teen Titans, Earth 2, and Wonder Woman, as well as her phenomenal cover art. Among her most fan-loved cover work was her “Throughout the Ages” variant covers, with each cover depicting one of DC’s most iconic heroes and their costumes throughout the decades.

Hence, if there was ever a creative dream team, then this team-up between Taylor and Scott is it. Their combined talents will truly bring something legendary. Taylor writing Lobo is particularly exciting because this is a character we haven’t often seen portrayed by the writer, so it will undoubtedly offer a unique, Taylor-esque flair that will likely be welcomed by die-hard Lobo fans.

The premise of Batman and Lobo interacting is also unique, given that it has been a hot minute since we last saw the Dark Knight and the Main Man cross paths. In fact, when it comes to Lobo interacting with DC’s finest, he typically crosses paths with Superman or other members of the Super-Family. A Batman and Lobo-centric story is well overdue, and fans couldn’t be more excited, judging by the chatter on discussion boards.
