Dell has just released its next-gen XPS 13 laptop, which comes packed with a wealth of AI features thanks to the new Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processor: a chip that promises to take Dell’s flagship laptop line to never-before-seen heights.
Whether you’re an office worker, at-home professional, or a content creator, the XPS line has long been a strong choice of laptop. Thanks to a premium design that offers reliability and durability despite its incredibly lightweight chassis, the newest XPS 13 doesn’t shuck this trend; in fact, the new model also features a design that incorporates more recycled materials than ever before, without compromising on build quality.
With a new second-generation Intel Core Ultra processor (from the Core Ultra 5 226V all the way up to the high-end Core Ultra 9 288V with 5.1GHz max boost), the new XPS 13 also benefits from a rich AI-powered feature set.
At the heart of this is the My Dell app, which comes bundled with the laptop and offers AI-optimised software to help boost performance and manage your laptop’s battery life. Combined with the energy efficiency improvements seen in the Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors, this gives the new XPS 13 a staggeringly good battery life of up to 26 hours of continuous use – perfect for users who don’t want to stay shackled to a charging cable.
It’s not just the new XPS 13 that is set to benefit from the new Intel Core Ultra processors and the AI capabilities they unlock. At the Intel AI Experience pop-up store in London, Dell showed that it’s not just high-end flagship laptops that will deliver these new AI features: Inspiron laptops were also showcased running AI video editing and generative video software.
AI in your backpack
The new Intel Core Ultra processors feature an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), one of the best in the world for boosting consumer AI workloads. It offers 48 trillion operations per second (TOPS), comfortably beating out the Apple M4 chips seen in the latest MacBook Pro, which offers 38 TOPS.
This NPU is crucial for boosting on-device AI software, whether that’s using machine learning tools within professional software such as Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite, building and running local language models, or simply getting some assistance with a work project from Microsoft Copilot.
You’ll also be able to take advantage of other baked-in AI features in Windows 11, such as Windows Studio Effects for better video calls and webcam recording. The XPS 13 is designated as a ‘Copilot+ PC’ by Microsoft, a stamp of authenticity for AI-capable devices, and will be enabled with full Copilot functionality following a free update in late November. Since these AI functions are run locally to the device, they don’t require a constant internet connection and mitigate the potential security risks of connecting to cloud-based AI software.
Beyond the bevy of AI features on offer here, the new Dell XPS 13 doesn’t slouch in the hardware department, bringing up to 32GB of RAM and 4TB of high-speed SSD storage as well as up to a 13.4-inch 2880 x 1800 resolution OLED touchscreen. Connectivity is also a major plus here, with Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports capable of both video output and power delivery, along with Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7 support for high-speed network connections.
Lastly, the new Dell XPS 13 delivers on the premium-feel promise of the XPS line, thanks to a CNC aluminum exterior, Gorilla Glass seamless-edge touchpad, and a unique touch function row at the top of the keyboard. It’s sleek, it’s powerful, and it’s future-proofed for the next generation of AI workloads.
