Demon Slayer’s Official October 2026 Return Marks The End Of An Era

There are few more iconic manga runs in 2026 than Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, with the weekly releases in the late 2010’s really serving as one of the more consistent, quality examples of the genre in history. It was therefore little surprise that the translated versions also did well, before other adaptations picked up the baton and ran with it.

Chief amongst those is undoubtedly the anime, which is also very good in its own right, but video game fans also got some solid new releases tied to the franchise to have fun with. Now, a new version of the game is about to release, and it marks the end of an era for those who were following along over the last year or so.

As first reported by Nintendo Everything, developer CyberConnect2 has confirmed that they are releasing a native version of Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 for the Nintendo Switch 2. Crucially, the new offering will be available as a cheaper upgrade pack for those who already have the game on the original console.

Alongside that, the Japanese version of the game is set to include all of the content from the Infinity Castle – Part 1 Character Pass DLC, presumably bringing that era of releases to a close in the process. Whether that offer will extend out to English versions of the game remains to be seen, but it would be difficult to see why not.

In trying to provide some insight into what fans can expect, the developer shared the following:

“Destroy demons with the power of forged bonds! Tanjiro Kamado’s battle will once again unfold…

• Single Player: Story Mode- Play as Tanjiro and relive the Entertainment District Arc, the Swordsmith Village Arc, and the Hashira Training Arc from the TV anime, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba! Battle Upper Rank demons with your allies!
• VS Mode: The Hashira unite!- The game features over 40 characters, including the nine Hashira, the highest-ranking swordsmen of the Demon Slayer Corps! New elements, such as Dual Ultimates and Gear, have been added! Take on new challenges both online and offline!”

There isn’t yet any information on what improvements to visuals or gameplay that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 may make. The Japanese release date for the game is October 29, though, so hopefully there shouldn’t be too long to wait before the chance to play it crops up.
