‘Disclosure Day’: Steven Spielberg Unveils New Footage At CinemaCon

[

At CinemaCon on Wednesday afternoon, Universal Pictures offered an extended new look at Disclosure Day, its new alien-themed sci-fi thriller from Steven Spielberg.

Already, we’ve seen a teaser and full-length trailer for the film. Today in Las Vegas, Spielberg was on hand for new footage.

In it, a local TV meteorologist played by Emily Blunt goes mute mid-broadcast and comes out instead with a series of unintelligible noises that rivet viewers. What ails her is not clear, but someone has a hint. And a secret. And a very alarming grainy black and white video. Turns out they have a shared past and soon are being hunted.

Star Colman Domingo was also on stage to present the footage and lead a conversation with Spielberg.

The film marks Spielberg’s return to extraterrestrial sci-fi for the first time in more than two decades — on the heels of War of the Worlds, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and E.T.Disclosure Day finds humanity confronting undeniable proof that extraterrestrial life exists, picking up on a real-world theme amid recent disclosures from U.S. government whistleblowers.

Coming off his Oscar-nominated semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans, also for Universal, Spielberg conceived of the original idea for the film, which stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Domingo and more, enlisting longtime collaborator David Koepp to pen the script. He and Kristie Macosko Krieger produced under their Amblin Entertainment banner. The film releases in theaters in June 12.
