Disney has announced an unexpected but temporary price drop across every Disney+ tier.
In a press release, the House of Mouse surprisingly confirmed that, starting yesterday (April 23), one of the world’s best streaming services is now available for as little as £3.99 a month.
The 30% discount, which new and returning users can take advantage of, can be used on any of the three plans that Disney+ offers, too. Here’s a quick breakdown of how much each one costs now compared to their usual price bands:

- Disney+ Standard With Ads — £3.99 per month (was £5.99 a month)
- Disney+ Standard (ad-free) — £6.99 per month (was £9.99 a month)
- Disney+ Premium (ad-free) — £9.99 per month (was £14.99 a month)
As always, there are a couple of caveats to be aware of.
First, this limited time offer is set to end at 11:59pm on May 6, meaning you only have two weeks to make us of it. So, if you’ve been thinking about signing up to Disney+ for a while, but couldn’t because you’ve been working to a budget, now’s as good a time as any to see what it’s about.
The other factor to consider is the cost-cutting measure is only available for the first three months after you sign up. Once your subscription ticks over into its fourth month, you’ll start paying the full amount. If you’re simple interested in checking out Disney+ while it’s less expensive than normal, then, make sure you cancel your new subscription before that period ends.
Why has the cost of Disney+ suddenly gone down?
This isn’t the first time that Disney+ has been made available at a cheaper price than normal. The streaming titan has occasionally been discounted around major shopping events and holiday periods, such as Black Friday and the festive season. This, though, is the first time in a while that it’s been offered at a reduced price early in any given year.
So, what’s the reason behind this decision? Disney hasn’t specifically explained why, but I suspect there’s one major culprit behind the cost-cutting measure: HBO Max.
Think about it. Having waited years for its arrival, UK customers were finally given the chance to see what all of the fuss was about HBO Max when it launched on British shores in late March. The debut of the Warner Bros Discovery-owned platform in the UK is sure to have piqued the interest of anyone looking for a new streamer to check out, especially if they were tired of what’s on offer from other services like Disney+, Netflix, and Prime Video.
The emergence of a new kid on the block is sure to have set alarm bells ringing at Disney HQ, especially if Disney+ users suddenly closed their accounts and flocked to HBO Max instead. Add in the fact that HBO Max would finally allow UK viewers to stream hugely popular shows like The Pitt, which weren’t available anywhere prior to the streamer’s launch, and British audiences have had something shiny and exciting to browse with their hard-earned cash.
In my mind, it’s no coincidence that Disney+ has become less expensive to subscribe to less than a month after HBO Max’s UK debut. The latter’s ad-supported tier is available for just £4.99 a month, too, thereby making it a serious alternative to Disney+’s usually pricier ad-based offering.
