It’s been a difficult year for Doctor Who fans, but if they listen closely, they can hear the distinctive “vworps” of the TARDIS growing ever louder. The revived Doctor Who series that ran from 2005 to 2022 has been unavailable to stream in the US for some time, but it’s finally found a new streaming companion. And you won’t have to travel into the future to watch it; it’s hitting a new streaming service in less than a month.
Collider is proud to exclusively announce that all 13 seasons and 176 episodes, including all the series’ special episodes, of the revived Doctor Who are coming to AMC+ this summer. That means you’ll be able to relive the adventures of Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker for the first time on US streaming in years. What’s more, AMC+ is offering a limited-time deal of $29.99 USD for a full year of AMC+; the offer ends on May 25. Remember: time travel is not yet possible, so once that offer’s gone, you can’t go back to claim it. You’ll also have to travel forward in time the slow way to June 11, when Doctor Who lands on AMC+.
What Is the Revived ‘Doctor Who’ Series About?
After the cancellation of Doctor Who on the BBC in 1989, the series was adrift for decades; a 1996 TV movie starring Paul McGann as the Doctor failed to revive interest in the long-running series about an immortal alien and his time-travelling police box. Finally, in 2005, longtime fan Russell T. Davies was recruited to resurrect and modernize the series; with Eccleston as the new Doctor and Billie Piper as his new companion, the series was a surprise hit. Eccleston, displeased with the production, departed after a single season, but his replacement, Tennant, proved even more popular. For the first time in its existence, the series became a worldwide phenomenon, and broke through in the United States to a degree it never had before. The series passed a number of milestones during this time, including the first ever conflict between the Daleks and the Cybermen, the first female Doctor, and the show’s 50th anniversary special, which united Tennant and Smith’s Doctors with the mysterious War Doctor (John Hurt).
AMC+’s offerings will not include the 26 seasons of the classic series that ran from 1963 to 1989. It will also not include the 60th anniversary specials with the return of Tennant’s Tenth Doctor, or the two seasons starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor that are currently streaming on Disney+.
Doctor Who will stream on AMC+ starting on June 11. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
