If you’re a dark fantasy fan who loves the brutal world of Berserk, the gothic horror of Dracula, or better yet, both, then there’s one upcoming series you’ll want to keep on your radar. Arriving this August, this new entry into the genre promises a “doomed march through Transylvania,” and with a tagline like that, it’ll be hard to pass this one up.
Set to release on August 12, 2026, Regicide #1 comes from writer Patrick Kindlon and artist Ludovic Lalliat. The inaugural issue will kick off a brand-new four-part series that follows a farmhand whose simple life is upended when village elders order him to travel to the capital alongside a dangerous stranger. This inciting event sets the stage for a deadly mission, as the unlikely pair are tasked with assassinating the murderous viceroy of Transylvania.
According to Image Comics’ official solicitation, Regicide #1 will span 32 pages and be available at local comic shops and digitally for $3.99. The publisher is also explicitly positioning Regicide as a “Dracula meets Berserk” dark fantasy series, promising a story “full of sexy entities and betrayal.” With that combination of gothic horror and brutal fantasy, fans of both properties will likely eat this series up.

For those who aren’t yet completely sold on the premise of a doomed march through Transylvania to kill a murderous viceroy, an early preview of Regicide #1 can be found in the gallery above. The preview wastes no time jumping straight into the gory action, making it clear that those drawn to the brutal, medieval-inspired world of Berserk may find something worth following in Regicide.
Given that Image Comics has marketed the series as “Dracula meets Berserk,” fans can likely expect classic vampire mythology to play a major role in the narrative, particularly through the influences of the historical figure Vlad the Impaler and the legend of Dracula.

Based on what has been teased and shown so far, Regicide also appears poised to appeal to readers who enjoy the reluctant swordsman-caught-in-a-brutal-conflict trope, along with the graphic violence that often accompanies such stories. With the series being compared to Berserk, readers should also prepare themselves for the possibility of a betrayal of epic proportions, as betrayal and tragedy remain some of the most defining elements of Guts’story.
It’ll also be interesting to see what elements of folklore the series chooses to explore. Vampires are all but guaranteed with the mention of Dracula, but it remains to be seen whether Regicide will go beyond this singular monster and introduce other horrors inspired by myth and legend.
