Thanks to the help of A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin, who supplied his help for the worldbuilding of Elden Ring, the Lands Between is rich with stories and lore, much of which was not even mentioned in the award-winning RPG. From the rise and fall of demigods to celestial beings, the existence of Grace and dragons soaring the skies, there is story behind everything, interwoven into the very fabric of a world where power is everything.
Thanks to the critical success of Elden Ring, which was released back in 2022 by FromSoftware, fans have been scrambling for more ways to immerse themselves in the magical world. Luckily, there have been multiple projects since, including its award-winning Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, its roguelike spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, and even its upcoming Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition.
However, with Hidetaka Miyazaki claiming that there were currently “no plans” for an Elden Ring sequel, it remains uncertain whether or not the lore-filled world will continue, at least in the video game format. That being said, a July launch is guaranteed to satiate fans as it launches with heaps of stories about some of our favorite Elden Ring characters.
Set to begin on 16 July, Elden Ring: Distant Tales is a graphic novel series set in the Lands Between. Bringing a voice and sharing the stories of some of Elden Ring‘s lesser known characters, such as Tanith, Rya, Blackguard Big Boggart and Blaidd, the series will detail the adventures and moments that were merely hinted at during the events of the game.
“These are the tales of the other inhabitants of the Lands Between.
What if Roderika were to befriend the rest of the Roundtable Hold…? What if the Blackguard went in search of a new delicacy other than prawns…? What if one were to catch a glimpse of Rya’s youth…?”
Featuring stunning art, lore-accurate stories, and fresh new information, Elden Ring: Distant Tales is the perfect addition to the library of any Elden Ring fan, and it all kicks off later this month.
Luckily, we were treated to a first look at Elden Ring: Distant Tales Vol. 1 back in April when some manga panels were shared to Reddit. The heartwarming scene shows Tanith and her daughter, Rya, with the former consoling her young daughter. What makes it all the more upsetting is knowing how their story ends throughout the events of Elden Ring, and I know that playing the game after reading Distant Tales will hurt all the more. As such, this brand-new manga series aims to provide new and exciting content to the game, whether we like it or not.
As mentioned, Elden Ring: Distant Tales Vol. 1 goes live on 16 July, and with the series expected to continue the stories of our favorite Elden Ring characters, we can only imagine how exciting the future is going to be for fans.
