Elden Ring players had a lot to be excited about this weekend, and fans of the iconic FromSoftware franchise are finally allowing themselves to get hyped over its official return. With details about the upcoming Elden Ring film being extremely hard to come by since it was first revealed last year, new footage has given players something concrete to speculate on.

After leaked images from A24’s Elden Ring film directed by Alex Garland surfaced online this weekend, fans are losing their minds over the franchise’s return and what the footage implies for the game’s story and setting (via Reddit).

Elden Ring Fans Are Getting Ready For Something “Generational”

The Elden Ring movie was first announced back in May 2025, and aside from writer/director Alex Garland’s role in production and a few actors being confirmed for the lead roles, not many details have surfaced in the past year. That was until last weekend when fan-recorded footage of the official Elden Ring movie set leaked online, sparking a wave of excitement in the player-base.

The set images for Elden Ring have fans hoping for a “generational” movie adaptation of their beloved franchise, keeping their fingers crossed that super-fan Garland will do the IP justice. Garland is a serious Elden Ring fan himself, and has apparently dumped hundreds of hours into it, and eventually even took his movie pitch directly to FromSoftware studio head Hidetaka Miyazaki to get the seal of approval.

While fans have been reluctant to get too excited without more details about the movie, the new images have been interpreted largely as a good sign of things to come. As BVR93 on Reddit points out, the images prove that Garland’s “obsession is authentic and the dude just loves this world and wants to leave his own mark on it through a different lens.”

Other players are still a bit reluctant, with fans like Icy-Blacksmith-4214 saying, “It still seems out of their range. Can’t see this coming together faithfully. Hope I’m mistaken.”

It’s A Good Time To Be An Elden Ring Fan

Despite Elden Ring releasing over four years ago now, it still remains one of the most popular open-world RPGs out there, and players have been eager for any new content they can get their hands on. While video game film adaptations have been a mixed bag over the years, this is a unique project in that A24 and Alex Garland aren’t likely to take a traditional blockbuster film approach to the Elden Ring film.

Garland’s obsession with the Elden Ring universe, combined with his unique approach to film-making (evidenced in films like Ex Machina and Civil War), show that fans are right to have their hopes high for the Elden Ring movie. While no official release date has been announced, the film officially begins filming this week, according to sources at World of Reel, and based on the newly leaked set images, fans are in for something truly special.
