Looks like Gabriel may be whisking Emily off to Greece in Season 6 of “Emily in Paris.” Darren Star’s hit Netflix romantic comedy series is kicking off production in May, with Greece and Monaco set as new glamorous locations for the globe-trotting series, which previously lensed in Rome, Venice, Saint Tropez and Megève.
Star was joined by key cast members Lily Collins, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Lucien Laviscount, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery and Andrew Fleming at PaleyFest LA ahead of the shooting start.
“Emily in Paris” is still going strong on Netflix. Season 5 debuted at No. 2 on the streamer’s Top 10 with 13.5 million views in its first four days, holding that spot the following week with 13.3 million.
Plot details for Season 6 are under wraps, but the Greek backdrop point to unfinished business between Emily (Collins) and her on-again, off-again love Gabriel (Bravo). In the Season 5 finale, Gabriel sends Emily a postcard inviting her on a Greek getaway, hinting at a possible rekindling.
“I can’t imagine the series without Gabriel,” Star told Variety in December, when season 5 held its premiere in Paris.
Season 5 saw Emily fully embrace her Roman chapter as head of Agence Grateau Rome, diving into a romance with Italian beau Marcello, while Gabriel left his restaurant and took on a new chef job on a yacht.
Star said Gabriel was Emily’s “big love,” and their scenes together in season 5 carried “a little nostalgia… which spoke to the idea that the show has matured.” The depth of their relationship comes from “a past… with memories and good times and bad times,” noted Star, who received France’s Legion of Honor from French President Emmanuel Macron in December.
Season 5 was overall also “more adult, more passionate,” he said. Among its more surprising twists was Mindy (Ashley Park) hooking up with Emily’s ex Alfie (Laviscount).
“Emily in Paris” was created by Star, who executive produces alongside Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Andrew Fleming, Stephen Brown, Alison Brown, Robin Schiff, Grant Sloss and Joe Murphy. Collins also serves as a producer. The series is produced by Paramount Television Studios, Darren Star Productions and Jax Media.
