Emmy Nominations: TV Academy To Reveal Categories Early, Again

There’s no rest for the Emmy hopefuls in the late-night and reality categories.

The Television Academy once again moved forward the time that it will reveal the nominations for the two categories where broadcast television is most represented.

The nominees for the Outstanding Variety Series and Outstanding Reality Competition Program will be revealed on NBC’s Today between 4:45am PT – 5:20am PT.

It follows CBS’ lead last year when the Paramount-owned network revealed the nominees for these two characters during its morning show.

The move means there’s a three hour gap between these first nominations and the rest of the noms, which are going to be revealed by The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas and Widow’s Bay’s Jeff Hiller at 8:30am PT.

Favorites for the merged Outstanding Variety Series category are The Daily Show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and NBC show Saturday Night Live. The Outstanding Reality Competition Program is expected to include NBCU’s Top Chef and Peacock as well as Paramount’s The Amazing Race, Survivor and RuPaul’s Drag Race. NBC’s The Voice could make it in but it missed out last year.
