Eric Kripke’s Plan For The Boys’ Cancelled Spin-Off Spells Hope For Its Future

[

The Boys‘ spin-off, Gen V, has been canceled after two seasons, but Eric Kripke has hinted that he might have something planned for the show’s young supe characters. Gen V season 2’s ending seemed like the perfect lead up to The Boys season 5 when it set up its main character, Marie, as Homelander’s potential rival. Even its other primary cast members joined Starlight’s resistance, paving the way for them to become The Boys season 5’s leads.

Surprisingly, The Boys‘ final installment has completely nerfed Gen V‘s supe characters. Marie and Jordan Li have cameos in The Boys season 5’s episode 7 while the remaining cast of Gen V remains missing. Their absence from The Boys‘ closing chapter makes their stories feel unresolved and incomplete. Fortunately, Eric Kripke recently confirmed (via Deadline) that they are still finding ways to complete Gen V‘s story.

He assured viewers that pulling the plug on Gen V was not his decision and added that he even had plans for how he would continue the show after season 2. While Gen V‘s cancellation prevents the show’s creators from materializing their ideas for the spin-off’s next chapter, Kripke’s future plan is a little relieving as it hints that we might get to see Gen V‘s characters and its primary setting again in The Boys franchise.

Vought Rising Could Explore The Origins Of God U

Since Vought Rising serves as a prequel to The Boys, it is almost impossible for any of Gen V‘s young characters to appear in its story. However, the upcoming spin-off could still find creative ways to tell new stories surrounding Gen V‘s Godolkin University and expand the franchise’s lore. It could explore God U’s origins and reveal how and why the school was started in the first place.

Since Vought Rising will primarily focus on Soldier Boy and Stormfront’s stories, it seems unlikely it will dedicate too much to expanding what the canceled spin-off started.

However, since Gen V still seemed to have a lot more stories to tell and many aspects of its main settings’ history also remained shrouded, Vought Rising has the opportunity to give viewers a glimpse of everything from Vought’s early experiments on young potential supes to the early influence of Vought’s skewed superhero branding on young minds.

While Gen V‘s young characters cannot show up in Vought Rising, the spin-off could also feature another set of young supes to highlight how Vought has been manipulating and exploiting superpowered individuals from a very young age for decades.

The Boys Mexico Spinoff Could Mark Gen V Characters’ Return

It is still unknown whether The Boys‘ Mexico spin-off will ever see the light of day. The show has been in the talks for quite some time, and there have also been some positive updates surrounding its development in recent times. Eric Kripke also recently revealed (via EW) that its pilot’s first draft was delivered to Prime Video, which even received a positive response.

Considering how the flywheels of its development are still in motion, The Boys‘ Mexico spin-off might eventually happen. If it does, it could accommodate Gen V‘s primary characters and give them a more conclusive story. Since the Mexico spin-off, too, will unfold in its own little world, it may not have enough room to bring back all Gen V supes.

However, it can still, at least, have a few Gen V leads, like Marie, Cate, Emma, and Jordan Li, in its main roster and give the characters the resolution they deserve. Since Gen V season 3 is certainly not happening, it is still disappointing that the show’s characters have been given such an underwhelming closure.

Their absence in The Boys season 4 is even more of a letdown. Hopefully, though, Eric Kripke and The Boys‘ writers will find creative ways to have them back in the Prime Video franchise’s future installments.
