Every Emma Frost Actress In Live-Action X-Men Movies

Emma Frost has had a key role in the X-Men movie franchise, and with her confirmed appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the number of actresses to play her keeps increasing. The telepathic mutant has had a storied history over 45 years of comics adventures, dating back to her debut in 1980.

Emma Frost is arguably best known for being the White Queen, the ruler of the Hellfire Club, and operating as an antagonist for Professor X’s X-Men team, all while wearing her well-known risque costume. However, the comics have evolved the character over the years to the point where she has also served as a vital, leading member of the X-Men.

With her mixture of telepathy powers and the ability to turn her body into diamond, making her practically invulnerable and granting her superhuman strength, Emma Frost is one of the more formidable mutants around. That’s why what side she aligns with is often so crucial. The X-Men movie franchise has shown that repeatedly, and it will do so again once Emma joins the MCU.

As a confirmed character for the MCU’s X-Men reboot, the shared universe is set to offer audiences another completely new iteration of her. And while several actresses have portrayed Emma in multiple animated X-Men shows, including X-Men ’97, there is a much smaller list of performers who have been able to play her in live-action movies.

Tahyna Tozzi

The first live-action version of Emma Frost came in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The 2009 solo movie for Hugh Jackman’s character included the character in a surprise role. While the movie stops short of confirming her full name, Kayla Silverfox’s sister is a blonde telepath who can turn her skin into diamonds. She’s imprisoned by William Stryker, alongside Scott Summers/Cyclops, and is eventually freed by Wolverine.

This makes Tahyna Tozzi (now known as Tahyna MacManus) the first actress to play Emma Frost in live-action. Before stepping into the major X-Men character’s shoes, the Australian actress appeared in multiple TV shows. Tahyna went on to appear in an episode of Charlie’s Angels and make several films after X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but she never returned as Emma, as Fox rebooted the continuity shortly after her debut.

January Jones

The most prominent role Emma Frost has had in a live-action X-Men movie came in 2011 with X-Men: First Class. The film included her in the 1960s story as the right-hand to Sebastian Shaw. She is an active participant in the Hellfire Club in this movie and gets repeated opportunities to show the vast abilities of her telepathy.

Fox and director Matthew Vaughn brought in a new actress to be Emma Frost for First Class, with January Jones taking over the role. Her casting came as she was in the midst of playing Betty Draper in HBO’s hit series Mad Men. She’s continued to have a successful career after tackling Emma Frost, such as a recurring role on FX’s comedy series The Last Man on Earth.

While January Jones never got to return for another X-Men movie, her version of Emma Frost was referenced in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The movie revealed she was experimented on by Bolivar Trask as part of his Sentinel project and died as a result of it.

Samara Weaving

When Marvel Studios’ X-Men movie arrives, a new version of the telepathic mutant will come with it. The studio selected Ready or Not franchise star Samara Weaving to play Emma Frost after a thorough audition process according to multiple reports. The MCU’s X-Men movie is expected to arrive in 2028, leaving audiences with a bit of a wait before Weaving’s portrayal makes her official debut.

It’s not yet clear what role Emma Frost will occupy in the MCU’s version of X-Men. She could be a main member of the team or a featured villain, or perhaps both over the course of the film. No matter what side she falls on for the first movie, there will be room for a deeper exploration of her than ever before through the MCU.

Weaving will certainly get the opportunity to play Emma Frost multiple times across several films. As a result, she could go down as the definitive version of the White Queen across all X-Men movies before too long.
