The Succession War aboard the Black Whale has transformed Hunter x Hunter into one of Yoshihiro Togashi’s most intricate storylines. With dozens of competing factions, elite Hunters, Mafia families, and royal guards all pursuing their own agendas, the conflict has become a massive web of alliances, betrayals, and hidden Nen abilities. At the center of the chaos, however, remain the 14 princes of the Kakin Empire, each forced to fight for the throne in a deadly contest where only one can survive.
Every prince participating in the ritual was automatically granted a Guardian Spirit Beast through the Seed Urn Ceremony. These mysterious Nen entities exist solely to protect and support their chosen heir, yet they cannot be commanded directly. They are also forbidden from attacking another prince or another Guardian Spirit Beast, forcing their abilities to influence the war through manipulation, strategy, and indirect means instead of outright combat. Although many of their powers have finally been revealed over the course of the Succession War, several beasts are still hiding their true potential, and recent manga chapters suggest some of the conflict’s biggest twists could still hinge on the abilities that remain a mystery.

14th Prince Woble
Status: Alive
The youngest daughter and most vulnerable Prince, Woble, has a Guardian Nen Beast, but so far, it has not shown itself nor initiated any attacks or actions. However, Benjamin’s guard Babimyna hypothesizes that this is due to Woble’s age or her beast being a counteractive type.
This means that it will only be activated if a user is harmed or takes damage, and the damage is returned to the one who inflicted it. The amount of damage returned is proportional to the amount of damage a user suffers. The reveal of Woble’s Guardian Spirit Beast will undoubtedly happen and play a role in the series, especially given that the war is heating up and all the Princes are in incredible danger now.

13th Prince Marayam
Status: Alive
The youngest son of the Princes, Marayam’s Nen Beast has shown itself to be very formidable so far. It grew in size, which is most likely a reflection of its host’s emotional state as it became larger after the death of Marayam’s sibling.
Furthermore, it managed to create a space in Marayam’s room that was inaccessible from the outside but could be left by anyone inside. Even if the door to the room is open, it cannot be seen from the outside, and if anyone enters, they will be transported to another empty room. Currently, Bisky is in the room with him as one of his Hunter guards.
12
12th Prince Momoze
Status: Deceased
Prince Momoze’s Guardian Nen Beast was way too powerful, so it makes sense as to why she was targeted and killed so far. Taking the shape of a cute mouse, Momoze’s beast is a Coercive Manipulator type that asks a target if they’re free, and if they reply with “no”, a miniature version of it appears on their shoulders and bothers them until they reply “yes”.
Once this happens, a spider version of it is implanted into the target’s ear and controls them until they run out of aura or are in a state of Zetsu. Furthermore, this spider-like beast doesn’t feed off of Momoze’s aura but the target. However, Momoze becomes very fatigued every time its beast ensnares a target.

11th Prince Fugetsu
Status: Alive (Cursed)
One of the kindest and most harmless princes, Fugetsu possesses a unique non-violent ability inspired by a cherished childhood memory. Her Magical Worm allows her to create a wormhole that manifests as a door, behind which lies a tunnel. Fugetsu can crawl through this tunnel to reach any location she has previously visited, and she can return to her original location as long as she hasn’t exited the tunnel through the hatch on the other side.
However, once she leaves this hatch, only her older and beloved sister, Kacho, can conjure a return door that will bring her back. Fugetsu’s reliance on her sister for this ability may stem from her dependence on Kacho. Currently, Fugetsu is under a curse cast by Meshush, a private guard of Second Prince Camilla.

10th Prince Kacho
Status: Deceased
Kacho’s Nen Beast grants one of the most beautiful abilities in the entire series: if either Kacho or Fugetsu dies, a perfect Nen doppelgänger of the deceased Prince will emerge, completely equipped with their memories, emotions, and more. This replica will stay with the surviving sister to protect her, demonstrating the incredibly strong bond between the two.
While there is still much to learn about the power of Kacho’s Guardian Spirit Beast, it appears that the doppelgänger can walk through walls. Additionally, Kacho’s death enhanced Fugetsu’s abilities through post-mortem nen, allowing Fugetsu to create a Return door by herself and use her abilities more than once a day.

9th Prince Halkenburg
Status: Alive (Soul) & Deceased (Body)
Halkenburg entered the Succession War as the prince many believed had the best chance of becoming king. His Guardian Spirit Beast embodies the loyalty of his followers, marking devoted allies and gradually awakening their Nen while strengthening the collective aura shared among them. The more unwavering their allegiance becomes, the greater the pool of power Halkenburg can draw upon, allowing him to unleash his devastating Nen ability, The Boy Who Shoots the Arrow: Grimmel the Dissonance.
That ability proved to be one of the deadliest techniques introduced in the arc. Anyone struck by Halkenburg’s arrow has their consciousness exchanged with that of one of his loyal followers, enabling carefully planned body-swapping schemes that can infiltrate even the highest levels of the Kakin royal family. In one of the Succession War’s biggest twists, Halkenburg sacrificed his own life as part of an elaborate plan to seize control of First Prince Benjamin’s body. Although Halkenburg’s original body has died, his actions continue to reshape the conflict, leaving the fate of Benjamin’s unrevealed Guardian Spirit Beast, and whether it recognizes its prince’s body or consciousness, as one of the manga’s biggest unanswered questions.

8th Prince Salé-salé
Status: Deceased
Despite being a relatively unimportant Prince and one of the first to die, Salé-salé’s Nen Beast had quite an ability, one that would’ve allowed him to control millions if given the time. His Nen Beast emits a white smoke that, if inhaled, will make a person like the Prince more, making this a manipulator type.
Furthermore, once someone inhales a certain level of smoke, a miniature version of the beast pops up on the person’s shoulder and produces more of the white smoke, although the radius will be smaller. This causes a chain reaction of many people infecting each other with the smoke.

7th Prince Luzurus
Status: Alive
One of the three Princes who backs a mafia group, Luzurus is a sleeper hit in the war. While his Guardian Spirit Beast’s ability sounds incredible, the requirements to activate it and other limitations are very vague.
It is a pseudo-manipulative type and a Conjurer. It creates something a target desires and uses it as bait. When the target indulges and falls for the trap, the ability is activated, and they become victim to the Guardian Spirit Beast’s manipulation. Despite becoming increasingly involved in the Mafia conflict, Luzurus remains alive as of the latest published chapters. His Guardian Spirit Beast’s full conditions are still largely unexplained.
6
6th Prince Tyson
Status: Alive
Tyson, one of the more peaceful princes, reflects her lovely personality through her Nen Beast. This Guardian Spirit resembles a massive heart with an eye in the center and produces small Nen beasts known as “Eye Wogs.” These creatures gather aura from designated individuals and offer happiness in exchange.
The level of happiness provided is dependent on how thoroughly a person engages with the Book of Tyson. This ability promotes loyalty and commitment among her followers but imposes a strict rule: violating Tyson’s only taboo results in severe consequences.
5
5th Prince Tubeppa
Status: Alive
Unlike many of her siblings, Tubeppa has approached the Succession War through intelligence and calculated diplomacy rather than brute force. A brilliant scientist with a pragmatic mindset, she has shown a willingness to form alliances whenever they improve her odds of survival. In the later stages of the conflict, she began cooperating with Kurapika, recognizing that his knowledge of Nen and his neutral position could prove invaluable as the war grows increasingly deadly.
Tubeppa’s Guardian Spirit Beast reflects her scientific nature. Its ability appears to revolve around creating specialized drugs or chemical compounds, but it requires cooperation with a “partner” before it can fully activate. While the exact mechanics and limits of its power remain one of the Succession War’s biggest mysteries, the implication is that it can produce substances tailored to specific situations rather than relying on direct combat. As more princes fall and alliances continue to shift, Tubeppa’s methodical approach and her still-unrevealed Guardian Spirit Beast make her one of the conflict’s most unpredictable survivors.
