Every Major Villain Confirmed in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

[

It’s safe to say that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is going to be one of the biggest superhero movies of all time. With the trailer breaking records in its first week of release, we can assume everyone and their mother will be running to see this flick when it premieres in July 2026. Many believe it could be more successful than Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed a whopping $1.9 billion worldwide.

One of the most exciting things revealed in the recent trailer is the villains confirmed to be in the movie. While some seem to simply be part of a larger montage — mainly Boomerang and Tarantula — other villains will probably play a bigger role in the story, like Scorpion (Michael Mando). We have multiple confirmed villain appearances in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, each one getting people excited beyond belief.

Fans of Spidey’s movies alone probably have no idea who the villain Tarantula is—a shame, because the character is actually pretty cool, despite how niche he is. The original iteration of the character was a revolutionary facing a dictatorship, but ended up enjoying the killing of it all too much, and became a villain. Three characters have taken on the mantle over the years, with the trailer recreating the comic book cover that marks the second appearance of Anton Miguel Rodriguez, the original Tarantula.

Tarantula will most likely be part of the opening montage of the film. However, it is still amazing to finally see a smaller character represented on the big screen. Fun fact, in his first appearance, he not only came across the Web-Slinger, but Punisher, as well, who is also in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. That makes this the perfect time to finally give this underrated villain a cameo—a chance to finally shine with the others.

The Hand

Many were surprised to see The Hand in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, and in a major role, as well. Everyone is wondering what kind of role they could have in the film, even leading to rumors that Charlie Cox might make a cameo, too. But the question of why Spidey is fighting The Hand is still largely up in the air, because why would they have an issue with the arachnid? Whatever that reason, Spidey is most definitely in for a ride as he takes on an entire ninja organization.

Audiences know that Spidey will fight The Hand at least twice: once in a prison sequence, and another across the rooftops of New York City. There’s a chance it is all one elongated sequence, but it’s likely that it’s two. The Friendly Neighborhood has faced The Hand a few times in the comics, but usually only in association with Daredevil. Nothing is confirmed, but the chances for a Spider-Man/Daredevil on-screen appearance are better than they have ever been.

Boomerang (Actor Unconfirmed)

For comic readers—not for more casual fans—Boomerang is one of the most iconic and fun Spider-Man villains. He’s not nearly as important or dangerous as the likes of, say, Green Goblin or Doctor Octopus, but he’s very unique and has been part of some fun stories. One of the most recent examples is in the Nick Spencer and Ryan Ottley run of Amazing Spider-Man (2018), where Peter actually ends up being roommates with Boomerang’s alter-ego, leading to some fun moments (it is a really amazing run, and if people are looking for some good Boomerang content, that’s the place to go).

While it’s unconfirmed who is playing Boomerang, it’s likely he also won’t have a huge role in the movie, appearing in a kind of shot like Tarantula, hinting that he may just be part of the same montage sequence. There doesn’t seem to be much space in the plot for him to be a major villain, but it’s so cool that he’s finally getting featured in a film after so long of being in the comics. Maybe, if fans are lucky, they could even adapt the Spencer story one day, and that amazing dynamic could come to life on screen.

Sadie Sink’s Mystery Character

It’s still unconfirmed who Sadie Sink is going to play. It’s most likely Jean Grey, though, based on the evidence provided by the trailer itself (the big mind control moment) and how members of the film have spoken about it. However, audiences know for certain that she’s playing an antagonist of some sort, which has been promised as a huge reveal.

She’s such an important character that she has even been cast in Avengers: Secret Wars, giving credibility to the Jean Grey rumor and meaning she’s merely getting an introductory arc in Brand New Day. Sink is a phenomenal actor, so no matter who she ends up playing, she is most likely going to kill it. If she is Jean Grey, though, this could be one of the biggest character inclusions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, finally bringing in a new X-Men character, and not one from a previous project.

Scorpion (Michael Mando)

Everyone has been excited to finally see Scorpion after he was teased all the way back in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Homecoming, a ridiculous nine years ago. In fact, many feared Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment would never follow up on it. Scorpion has always been one of the most underrated yet strongest Spider-Man villains of all time, and the fact that people are finally getting him in live-action is huge for both comic and movie fans.

From the scenes in the trailer alone, it is already incredibly clear that Mando is going to do a good job. Many also wonder who is going to be responsible for this antagonist’s creation, as he is typically a product of J. Jonah Jameson’s machinations. Could this be the case in Holland’s fourth solo outing? We don’t have official confirmation of J.K. Simmons‘ return yet, so only time will tell. All that is known is that people are beyond anticipating his participation in the plot, regardless of how long Scorpion is in the movie.

Tombstone (Marvin Jones III)

While Wilson Fisk is usually the crime lord Peter Parker fights in most media, there’s another option that’s just as cool, and potentially more powerful. Tombstone (Marvin Jones III), also known as Alonzo Lincoln, is making his first film appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Much like Fisk, he is a crime lord—most likely filling the void left by Fisk after Daredevil: Born Again Season 2—but he actually has powers.

Lincoln has superhuman strength, reflexes, stamina, and, most notably, durability. His skin is absurdly strong, withstanding high-caliber bullets and even heat as high as 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit (with similar resistance to cold temperatures). Sure, Fisk may be strong, but he doesn’t have powers, making Tombstone more powerful than him. Niche comic book fans even claim to like him more than the more iconic enemy because of how unique he is in comparison. There’s a good chance that Tombstone is behind the many villains in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which means he’s going to be a very important character moving forward. Along with him returning in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2, this could be the year of Tombstone.
