The handling of the main, single-player Fallout series has undoubtedly left a lot to be desired, with many wondering how Bethesda can leave the franchise on ice for over a decade (not to mention the poor Elder Scrolls community). Fallout 76 exists, but there are a lot of players who simply don’t want to engage with a multiplayer release of any kind.
Happily, one thing us fans did get is the new adaptation on Prime Video, which has deepened the lore of the franchise considerably and, frankly, been an absolute blast to watch. Now, that show has just received a major update, but it has had the knock-on effect of drawing a lot of attention back to the main games once again.
Over on Reddit, one user shared a post detailing quotes from those working on the Prime Video Fallout adaptation, where they confirmed that work on Season 3 had already begun in May, because they “Don’t want to keep fans waiting.”
It’s that last line that’s obviously causing consternation among fans, who have obviously been waiting a very long time indeed to play a new game in the series. That led to a bunch of them calling out Bethesda in the meantime, even if they are excited about the early release of the show.
“You know, I’m all for letting devs make what they want to. If they don’t want to be an exclusively Fallout or Elder Scrolls studio, we should support that. I don’t blame Todd Howard. I blame Microsoft for not putting another developer on a Fallout spinoff like New Vegas 2 or something. Same for Elder Scrolls,” one comment read.
While another added, “It is absolutely astounding that Bethesda/Xbox/Microsoft have done absolutely nothing to attempt to cash in on the Amazon show’s hype. No remakes, no upscaled ports to modern consoles, no sequels announced, no spinoffs like New Vegas…”
Others were a little more understanding, with one saying, “I mean, what can they do right? Obviously, outsource to other studios but it still takes years to develop games. By the time the 3rd party gets done with their Fallout game, Fallout 5 will have come and gone. The show will have been long over. It would be good to do these things and invest more resources in Fallout but we won’t reap the benefits of that for a long time. There’s nothing that can be done to get a game out right now.”
There’s absolutely no doubt that the appetite for more Fallout games is about as pronounced as it has ever been, but it’s difficult to see a world where those demands will be sated any time soon. Let’s hope Bethesda or another studio can pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat, to at least give us a remake before 2030.
