Fallout 5 Teaser Confirms We’ll Be Playing This Game For A Very Long Time

[

Unfortunately for those of us who marginally prefer Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic world to the fantasy one they also steward, the developer’s focus is solely on getting The Elder Scrolls VI into the hands of players as soon as possible, after that series has been on ice since the release of Skyrim in 2011.

Whilst that’s obviously an understandable decision, it’s little consolation for those of us who want to play more Fallout, and we’re left either returning to the old games ad nauseam, or playing ongoing effort Fallout 76, which is admittedly good fun in 2026.

That said, we do know the fifth game is on the way, and if recent comments from those close to the project are to be believed, then we could be getting the biggest and best release in the series to date.

It Sounds Like Fallout 5 Will Be Worth The Wait

Over on Reddit, one user shared a post featuring an interview with studio design director Emil Pagliarullo, via Game Informer. In it, Pagliarullo detailed exactly how long he wants players to be able to play and enjoy the next game in the Fallout series, and it’s an exciting future he spells out.

“I would be happy with a game that is as successful as the previous Fallout games that continues to give fans what they love. To give them a story that they can get into and systems that they love and really just an experience that they play not for 20 hours and not for 100 hours, but an experience they can play for 200, 300, 600 hours, because that’s the kind of games we make.”

As the comments noted, it’s not about making a game that’s possible to play for 600 hours, but one that players want to enjoy for that long. “Anyone can make a game that could be played for 600 hours. It’s about making a game that people would WANT to play for 600 hours (like Skyrim). Bethesda need to create worlds and systems where you want to stay in, not get bored by,” one response read.

Even if the game is a mere 50-hour experience, if it’s loaded to the brim with memorable moments and locations to explore, then that will have been worth the wait (depending on when it does actually release).

When Is Fallout 5 Actually Coming?

So when are we actually going to get to see what Bethesda has been cooking up? Well, in all likelihood, it would be surprising if we saw anything of the game before 2029, though most believe a full release date of 2030 is the more likely. Until then, we’re just going to have to sit tight for more Fallout fun.
