Fallout: New Vegas Retribution Feels Like A Completely New Game

Fallout: New Vegas is probably one of the most replayable RPGs out there, but even the greats can start to get stale over 15 years after release. Luckily, New Vegas has one of the most dedicated fan communities out there, and a variety of fan creations have provided enormous expansions or total overhauls to the game experience.

Two standouts are Retribution 1 and 2, quest mods that focus on working for the Legion at Cottonwood Cove. While Retribution creator AutisticHarmonica quit modding last year, a team called Baby-Eater Incorporated recently took over the modder’s works. Now, both parts of Retribution have been re-released on Nexus Mods as Retribution REDUX, an “official moderately-enhanced version of the premier Legion Bounty mod.”

Fallout: New Vegas Is Back, Thanks To The Fans

If you’ve ever wanted more content focused on the Legion in Fallout: New Vegas, Retribution REDUX is likely the perfect mod for you. With 20 quests in total and full voice acting, it’s quite a sizable expansion, even if it doesn’t rank among the most massive fan contributions to Fallout: New Vegas.

The REDUX release also includes some fixes and changes, ranging from the addition of missing voice lines to rebalanced enemy health. It isn’t a massive overhaul, but it should be the best way to play Retribution to date, and it’s nice to have official availability and support again after AutisticHarmonica stepped away.

Don’t get your hopes too high for the future, though. The team promises to “continue monitoring the mod to fix any possible bugs,” but Retribution 3 is off the table, as “Everything is resolved by the end of Retribution 2.” For those who love Retribution and want more, AutisticHarmonica’s The Unforgiven is another mod that’s now been resurrected with a redux.

This Should Help Ease The Wait For Fallout 5

There’s still quite a way to go until the inevitable release of Fallout 5, as it presumably has to wait its turn until after The Elder Scrolls 6. The dream, of course, is to have New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment take on another Fallout game, but such a beautiful prospect might be too much of a long shot.

In the meantime, mods like Retribution REDUX could be the best way to revisit the Wasteland. Fallout: New Vegas remains the peak of the series in some regards, and opportunities to explore that world further might be even more satisfying than Fallout 5 will be.
