TriStar Pictures’ Fanning Sisters movie The Nightingale is shifting a month forward from Feb. 12 to March 19, 2027.
The move is due to Sony wanting to playing the movie into the Easter weekend holiday, which is on March 28 next year, in addition to taking advantage of college springs breaks with 30% off around that time. There are also no films dated for women in March, hence pic will serve as counter-programing against Paramount’s Sonic 4, also on March 19. The Nightingale is currently in production and it’s the first time that the sisters have starred in a feature film together.
The news about Nightingale‘s release date change comes after Dakota Fanning scored an Emmy nom in Supporting Actress Limited Series for Peacock/Carnival’s All Her Fault, and Elle Fanning in Comedy Series Best Actress for Apple TV’s Margot’s Got Money Troubles. Both sisters were nominated as EPs in Outstanding Comedy Series for Margot’s Got Money Troubles.
The movie, based on Kristin Hannah’s global bestseller (11 million copies sold in 45 languages), follows two sisters during WWII who dare to embark on separate, dangerous paths in the fight for survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France. Michael Morris directs off a screenplay by Dana Stevens. Producers are Elizabeth Cantillon, the Fannings, Brittany Kahane Ward, Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter.
Since debuting in 2015, the novel became No. 1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list, spending a combined 165 weeks on the chart across formats. It also dominated NPR’s fiction chart for 45 weeks and was named a Reese’s Book Club Pick in March 2023. In March 2025, a special 10th Anniversary Edition soared to #2 on the NYT hardcover list. The Nightingale has already sold 1M copies so far this year.
