George R.R. Martin Officially Sets New A Song Of Ice & Fire Release In 2 Weeks

[

George R.R. Martin has officially confirmed a new release date for A Song of Ice and Fire.

The creator of the fantasy franchise revealed a new release date, which will be available for purchase in just two short weeks. The fantasy franchise has seen plenty of success so far this year, mostly thanks to its TV adaptations on HBO. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms debuted to stellar reviews, bringing the Tales of Dunk and Egg novella series to life in a satisfying way. Meanwhile, House of the Dragon season 3 has continued adapting the Dance of the Dragons from Martin’s Fire & Blood Targaryen history book.

Now, Martin has revealed a new release from A Song of Ice and Fire will be coming in just a few weeks. Taking to his site, Not A Blog, Martin revealed a Song of Ice and Fire 2027 calendar will be released on July 21, 2026, with the calendar already available to pre-order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The calendar features moments and characters from Westeros illustrated by Tyler Jacobson, with 12 in total alongside a fold-out poster.

The calendar not only serves as a neat way to start 2027 for fans of the franchise, but also a testament to the fleshed-out history of A Song of Ice and Fire over the course of many decades. The first book in the series, A Game of Thrones, was released in 1996. Now, thirty years later, the franchise is more of a global phenomenon than ever before. Its TV adaptations are just part of that success, with the calendar offering another lens into how the franchise has impacted so many around the world.

There are, of course, many high-profile plans for the series to continue. House of the Dragon season 3 is ongoing, but the show is expected to conclude with season 4, due out sometime in 2028. In the meantime, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 is filming for an expected early 2027 release, with hopes for the series to become a yearly release. The world of Westeros will also be arriving on the big screen with Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest, a movie depicting how the Targaryens came to power in the fantasy realm.

But A Song of Ice and Fire began on the page, which is where Jacobson’s calendar illustrations will be pulling from. Martin has a number of projects in the works for Westeros’ on-page adventures, including the long-awaited Winds of Winter, plans for multiple Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, and the second volume in Fire & Blood. Regardless, with so much history in so many different places, the franchise’s calendar release can expertly pull from all of them.

As A Song of Ice and Fire continues to grow and expand, this calendar is the perfect way of honoring the franchise while also offering plenty of exclusive Westeros art to lead into 2027. As the franchise continues to grow in the years ahead, this will only serve as another reminder of just how big the fantasy series truly is.
