George R.R. Martin is attached to several acclaimed projects, most notably his fantasy adaptations, including Game of Thrones and the ongoing spin-offs. Outside of fantasy, the Santa Fe resident is well known for executive producing the best Western on TV right now, which boasts a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating across its four seasons. Because of its brilliance, the show was renewed for a fifth run even before Season 4 premiered, and while fans await the finale, Season 5 has already begun adding new characters.
As AMC’s most intriguing neo-Western thriller, Dark Winds never fails to leave fans hungry for more episodes. The smash hit is created by Graham Roland and showrun by John Wirth, both of whom also serve as executive producers. Additional executive producers include the late Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Zahn McClarnon, Chris Eyre, Tina Elmo, Jim Chory, Thomas Brady, Max Hurwitz, Vince Gerardis, and Anne Hillerman. Season 4 currently airs on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT and concludes on April 5, 2026.
Earlier in February, Dark Winds was renewed for an eight-episode fifth season, which is currently in production in Santa Fe, New Mexico. There is no official description for the new season, but reports confirm that a Shameless alum has been tapped for a recurring role. Noel Fisher, who portrayed Mickey Milkovich in the Showtime gem, is set to appear as Michael Jorie in Dark Winds Season 5. Michael is a dangerous killer with a warped sense of righteousness and piety to his beliefs that fuel his involvement in a southwestern gang with a long history of violence.

Who Else Stars in ‘Dark Winds’ Season 5?
Besides Fisher, Rez Ball star Devin Sampson-Craig and Martin Sensmeir from Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone have joined the recurring cast of Dark Winds Season 5. Sampson-Craig is set to play Daniel Ironwater, Jr., a skilled ranch hand whose time in Vietnam has left him conflicted and heading down the wrong path. Sensmeir, on the other hand, will play a former Vietnam veteran turned racetrack worker with a history with Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon).
Based on the Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds is set in 1971 on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley and follows Lt. Joe Leaphorn (McClarnon) of the Tribal Police as a series of seemingly unrelated crimes besiege him. The closer he digs into the truth, the more he exposes the wounds of his past.
