GhostsSeason 6 has officially begun filming this week up in Montreal. The series just recently celebrated the beginning of filming with a return to San Diego Comic-Con, where stars Asher Grodman, Román Zaragoza, and Utkarsh Ambudkar, alongside showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, revealed the first details about what we can expect from Season 6 and the pair of holiday specials leading the show’s return this fall. While Season 6 has been shifted to a midseason series for the majority of its 22 episodes, Ghosts will return with a Halloween special and a Christmas special before the end of the year. Now, CBS has officially set a date for both specials.
At SDCC, Port and Wiseman revealed some plot details about both episodes that already have fans on the edge of their seats. During the Halloween special that will double as the Season 6 premiere, we will officially meet Hetty’s (Rebecca Wisocky) mustachioed sister Margaret, and she will be a new type of ghost than we’ve met before. Then at Christmas, the series’ annual two-parter will riff on one of the greatest holiday movies of all time, Die Hard, and deliver the show’s first-ever ghost-on-ghost possession. Now, we finally know when those specials will air thanks to CBS’ newly released fall schedule details. The two-part Halloween special will air on October 29 from 9 PM to 10 PM, and just over a month later, the Christmas special will air on December 10 in the same time slot. Both specials will be available to stream on Paramount+ the following day. An official date for the remaining episode has not yet been set, but as a midseason release, Ghosts could return anytime between January and March 2027.

‘Ghosts’ Will Celebrate 100 Episodes in Season 6
The celebrations don’t stop after the holiday specials. Ghosts will officially cross the 100th episode mark with the 6th episode of Season 6. To mark the occasion, Ghosts will have an in-universe tie-in to the spooky spirits’ favorite reality TV series “It’s Getting Hot in Here,” which will celebrate its 100th episode, presumably while filming at the mansion. The episode marks a momentous occasion for the series, as a milestone that not a lot of shows get to celebrate in the age of streaming. Ghosts’ longevity speaks to the quality of the series and its status as a mainstay on network television. According to Nielsen data over the last year alone, Ghosts has consistently ranked as the top comedy, not just on broadcast but across streaming as well, with over 10.2 million views.
Of the show’s unusual rollout this year, Grodman recently told Perri Nemiroff during an interview at Collider’s SDCC studio that this year the show will feel like event television, saying:
“I think the idea is to try to make the show an event. We’ve talked about this a little bit today, which is that, again, this concept is so rich. There are so many things you can do with it. I said this earlier, but it’s the only pilot I’ve ever read where afterwards you’re like, ‘Oh, they could take this anywhere.’ The possibilities are endless.
We always feel, when we do these episodes, like, ‘Oh! We could have done that,’ or ‘We could have done that.’ It’s not from a place of regret; it’s just a place of opportunity. So when you have these longer episodes, and you get to dive deeper, and seeds get planted that we pick up later, it’s always made so much sense for the Christmas episodes. They’ve been so rich. […] And then because of the nature of the show, doing one about Halloween is so thrilling.”
