Gintama’s Creator Is Back With An Amazing Isekai Parody Manga

[

Warning: Contains spoilers for Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz.Manga like Dragon Ball, My Hero Academia, and the Big 3 of anime are often the go-to picks for the best Shonen Jump manga, but a series that sits on just as high a pedestal is easily Hideaki Sorachi’s Gintama. With absurdist, parody-laden comedy that never got old after over a decade, and a surprisingly heartwarming and action-packed story to go along with it, Gintama has always stood as an understated pillar of Shonen Jump, and no story has ever managed to fill the void left by its conclusion in 2019.

Even after so many years, there’s never been a comedy like Gintama, whether it’s in Shonen Jump or in the manga sphere as a whole. That, of course, makes it all the more fitting that Hideaki Sorachi would return to Shonen Jump with a brand-new gag manga, and even after a single chapter, it’s poised to be more than a fitting replacement for Gintama and exactly what Shonen Jump needs right now.

Shonen Jump Finally Goes Into Isekai In The Best Way Possible

Shonen Jump launched three new manga in April 2026, and out of all of them, the standout was, by far, Hideaki Sorachi’s Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz. Before its release, nothing was known other than the basic plot of a demon king being defeated by a hero and plotting revenge, but with its official release, it’s now been confirmed that the series is an isekai manga, with the demon king’s heir, Valaris III, going to Earth to gather her strength to defeat the hero and get her revenge.

Having an isekai manga in Shonen Jump is incredibly unexpected, and as one would expect from Hideaki Sorachi, it’s nothing but a hilarious romp. Valaris, for example, is made out to be a complete loser as a means of constantly lampooning isekai and fantasy tropes, and the one who’s actually capable of fighting is Akira, a former delinquent who’s hilariously unfazed by everything and loses control of himself whenever he takes a dump. Add in all the usual absurdist comedy of Sorachi’s writing style, and Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz is already an amazing isekai parody after just one chapter.

Despite the massive boom of isekai anime within the past decade, Shonen Jump has never done much to try and capitalize on it, the only notable example being the short-lived MamaYuyu from 2023. The fact that MamaYuyu failed, though, is proof that if Shonen Jump is going to dabble in isekai, it needs to be something special for it to land with people, and with how much Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz effortlessly lampoons the genre while being funny in its own right, it’s clear that it’s the manga that can do just that.

Why The New Manga From Gintama’s Creator Could Be A Generational Hit

Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz is off to an amazing start, and it already has all the signs of being a generational hit. As previously stated, despite isekai anime still dominating the medium, Shonen Jump has never made an earnest attempt to capitalize on its popularity, so with the series being a spoof of isekai anime, combined with the prestige of being a new manga from the creator of Gintama, it would be easy for it to become a massive hit.

All of that, of course, is exactly what Shonen Jump needs right now. Even with Kagurabachi, Ichi the Witch, and Shinobi Undercover finding success to various degrees, Shonen Jump still hasn’t found something to fill the void left by My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen’s finales, and with 2025 being such a terrible year for Shonen Jump, there’s a bigger need than ever to find a genuine hit before One Piece ends.

2025 Was Officially The Worst Year In Shonen Jump History, And 2026 Is Going To Be Even Worse

With a huge slate of duds and manga being canceled in their prime, 2025 was the worst year in Shonen Jump history, and it’s only going to get worse.

It’s impossible to predict how Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz will go and be received after a single chapter, but out of every new manga Shonen Jump has published recently, it’s probably the series that has the most charm and intrigue needed to become a hit. If Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz is even half as good as Gintama, then it will be a welcome addition to Shonen Jump, and it will be great to see how its story plays out.
