GTA 5 Fans Blown Away By New Leaked Info On Its Longevity

While the world waits with bated breath for Grand Theft Auto 6 to finally be released, its predecessor is still going strong. GTA 5 was released in 2013, and people are still playing the title, which continues to look and play great despite its age.

As excited as fans are about the upcoming release of GTA 6, they remain steadfast supporters of the previous game. GTA 5 has a prestigious 97 from critics on Metacritic, as well as a decent player score of 8.5. According to the post, the game still makes $500 million every year and over $1 million per day, sells 5 million copies every three months, and has 4 million daily active users.

These are some bold claims, and not entirely accurate, but the real numbers are just as impressive. According to Tweak Town, the game actually sells 5 million copies every quarter (that’s every three months), though I could find no specific revenue numbers to confirm the rest of the claims.

Steam Charts data shows that there are still over 100K monthly players regularly logging in to play the title—which isn’t the 4 million boasted by the X account, but is still very impressive for a 13-year-old game.

GTA Online Will Still Be Supported

As Long As People Play It, Support Will Continue

GTA Countdown also states that “Take-Two CEO said the support will continue even after GTA 6 comes out, as long as people still play.” This, also according to Tweak Town, was actually said in reference to Grand Theft Auto Online, not GTA 5. Still, this is great news for GTA Online fans, who were worried support would cease when the newest title was released.

When asked about GTA Online support ending after GTA 6’s release, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that “I have every reason to believe we’ll continue to support GTA Online. There’s a great community that loves it and that stays engaged.” In other words, as long as the game continues to rake in revenue (as it is currently doing at huge rates), Take-Two and Rockstar will continue to support it.

Fan responses on the X post point out that Grand Theft Auto 5 is doing as well as some live-service games. The release of Grand Theft Auto 6 November 19, 2026 may change everything, as some players will inevitably abandon the older games in favor of the stunning new title. For now, though, it seems Rockstar is geared to keep players engaged with its older games, too.
