The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is finally getting closer, as November draws closer and members of the community cross their fingers that Rockstar doesn’t swing the delay hammer once again to crush our dreams and push the game into 2027 in the process.
That anticipation is totally fair enough at this point, with the last game in the series releasing all the way back in 2013. Whilst GTA Online has done a lot of the heavy lifting in the meantime, it really is high time for a new experience in the same universe, and GTA VI really does look like it has all the bells and whistles needed to deliver in a big way.
With all of that in mind, questions among the community have turned to exactly how much they’re going to have to pay to play it. As part of those conversations, thoughts turned to the idea of Early Access, and it’s safe to say that it’s quite a divisive concept with the game’s enormous fan base.
Will GTA 6 Offer Early Access?
Over on Reddit, one user shared a post asking fans whether they think that Rockstar will offer limited Early Access to the game via a more expensive Deluxe Edition. The comments were filled with opinions, most of which were relatively negative about the idea.
“Rockstar are not idiots. $120 turns your product into a premium item no matter what it is, they’ll lose money by gatekeeping more frugal customers,” one said.
“Definitely not. Giving anyone outside of R* employees already under NDA access to the game early is just asking for the game to be leaked and spoiled across the internet at an unstoppable pace. They’ve also never included early access as a perk for any edition of a GTA game,” another added.
At the same time, journalist Tom Henderson asked his followers on Twitter/X whether they would be willing to pay for Early Access, and the crowd was split down the middle (assuming they weren’t lying).
The fact is that, though some obviously wouldn’t be too bothered, there are plenty of players out there who would be willing to drop an extra $20 or $30 to get their hands on GTA VI early. With hundreds of hours of enjoyment to be had in the single-player alone, a couple of days wouldn’t make too much of a difference either, particularly given that the multiplayer isn’t available at launch.
