Getting to play a brand new GTA adventure while we wait for Grand Theft Auto VI to arrive feels like a baller move! Grand Theft Auto: Carcer City feels like the perfect excuse to revisit a GTA classic with a brand new make-over and storyline to boot. Let’s get into it!

Grand Theft Auto: Carcer City takes the base game of GTA: San Andreas and totally overhauls it. New characters, new voice work, a new protagonist and a completely reworked map to explore and enjoy. Taking the already excellent San Andreas map and reshaping it for a new story is just genius. The demo itself is a mod, so you will need to own the original GTA: San Andreas (not the enhanced version) to play it. That caveat aside, getting a free GTA download like this feels like Christmas has come early!

The demo offers a slice of the run-down, hard-boiled gritty city which is inspired by real world locations like Detroit and Pittsburgh. You play as former detective Liam O’Mallegan who is on a mission to tackle the escalating crime and corruption that has overrun Carcer City. With muted colors and a city on the brink of decay, Grand Theft Auto: Carcer City offers a darker, more serious adventure for gamers to sink their teeth into.

Some mods only offer cosmetic changes or gameplay tweaks, but this has so much more. This is a brand-new adventure. Carcer City already exists in Rockstar Games lore as it was the setting for the rather controversial Manhunt. This derelict, dark and almost dystopian playground has been re-imagined by DeadpoolMKD to bring us this brand new gritty crime drama to enjoy.

From police shootouts to high-stakes car chases, everything has been reworked, taking it far from the original GTA: San Andreas. New weapons, vehicles, music and even a new combat system are being teased for future updates, and it’s clear that Grand Theft Auto: Carcer City is more than just a passion project. With Grand Theft Auto VI still so far away, Carcer City might just hold our attention up until the launch date. Or at least until we get a brand new GTA 6 trailer to blow our minds!
