More than a decade after their split, Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani have seemingly found their new normal.
Rossdale, who was married to the No Doubt frontwoman from 2002 to 2015, opened up about the former couple’s coparenting relationship in an interview with Fox News Digital published Monday, March 30.
The Bush singer shares three sons with Stefani: Kingston, 19, Zuma, 17, and Apollo, 12.
“It’s a two-lane highway, you know,” Rossdale, 60, told the outlet. “But they don’t ever seem to merge, which is fine.”

Stefani filed for divorce from Rossdale in August 2015, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the breakup. Both sought joint custody of their children.
“I was dead. I was literally dead, like panicking, like anyone would be,” Stefani told USA TODAY of the divorce in 2016. The singer also opened up about the emotional strain of her custody arrangement with Rossdale.
“I see my kids half the time now,” Stefani said at the time. “That, to me, is devastating. At the same time, I’ve been able to recover the way I have… I know that things are going to keep unfolding and evolving, and I have faith that everything’s going to get better and better.”
Rossdale reflected on the evolution of his coparenting relationship with Stefani, telling Fox News Digital that he and the Grammy-winning singer have each carved out their own paths.
Stefani is “probably doing the best she can, and I’m doing the best I can,” Rossdale said. “And the kids are growing up, so I’m a proud proponent of the system. It’s fine.”
Since their divorce, both Stefani and Rossdale have moved on to other romances. Stefani married country music superstar Blake Shelton in 2021, while Rossdale is currently dating Albanian singer Xhoana X.
In a 2024 interview with People magazine, Stefani shared how her divorce and subsequent marriage to Shelton changed her outlook on family.
“[I grew] up with this perfect example of love between my parents. They met when they were 15 and they fell in love, and then they had us, and they made us feel like we were everything to them,” Stefani said. “And when you have a family and it’s the opposite of that, it breaks up … I didn’t know what to do or how to protect my children. And I’m still working on that.”
