HBO Max’s Upcoming Drama Gives Neve Campbell A Proper Lincoln Lawyer Replacement

[

Although The Lincoln Lawyer is ending with its fifth outing later in 2026, HBOMax has already ensured that series star Neve Campbell has another intriguing project lined up to replace the series. While Prime Video’s Bosch franchise continues to grow with the second-season renewal of its spinoff Ballard and the upcoming arrival of its prequel Bosch: Start of Watch, the police procedural series isn’t the only successful adaptation of author Michael Connelly’s bestselling books.

Based on Connelly’s novel series that started in 2005 with The Lincoln Lawyer, Netflix’s legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer focuses on the troubled titular character, Mickey Haller. Manuel Garcia-Ruffo’s unconventional lawyer earns his nickname by operating his ramshackle practice from out of the boot of his Lincoln town car, but the character’s haphazard personal life belies some great skill in the courtroom. Developed by Allie McBeal showrunner David E. Kelley, The Lincoln Lawyer replicates the blend of legal thrills and high drama from that ’90s hit.

While Prime Video’s Bosch franchise is a lot darker and grittier, The Lincoln Lawyer isn’t bereft of heavier themes. Mickey struggles with the aftermath of addiction as he attempts to rebuild his personal and professional life throughout the show, often relying on the help of his ex-wife, Neve Campbell’s Maggie McPherson. In season 4, Maggie defends Mickey against a murder charge, and their relationship is set to grow even more complex in the show’s upcoming fifth and final season.

Anyone who was let down by Campbell’s recent return to her most famous big-screen franchise in the execrable Scream 7 will be glad to hear that the undervalued star has a new show on the way after The Lincoln Lawyer concludes. Deadline recently reported that Party of Five creator Chris Keyser’s upcoming coming-of-age drama The Shore, based on the coming-of-age novel of the same name by author Katie Runde, will star Campbell in a major role.

A multi-generational family drama, The Shore focuses on Margot and Brian Dunne, a couple who rent beachside properties on an idyllic New Jersey shore front. When Brian falls ill, Margot must take over running the business, all while trying to raise her daughters, Liz and Evy. Although Scream 7’s confused story introduced a daughter for Campbell’s iconic final girl, Sidney Prescott, the odds are good that The Shore will do a better job of fleshing out the relationships between Campbell’s heroine and her offspring.

Of course, eagle-eyed readers may have already noted that The Shore has a link to Campbell’s screen career that predates even her breakout movie role in 1996’s original slasher sleeper hit Scream. From 1994 until 2000, Campbell starred in the coming-of-age drama Party of Five alongside Lacey Chabert, Matthew Fox, and Jennifer Love Hewitt. This series centers on five orphans who make up an unconventional but loving family after losing their parents in a car accident.

While the Scream franchise made Campbell a multiplex icon, it was Party of Five that first put the actor on the map. The show was a little schmaltzy in comparison with later teen dramas, but still propelled its cast to stardom and remains fondly remembered over three decades later. Keyser later worked on the short-lived Party of Five spinoff Time of Your Life and the one-season drama Significant Others before returning to the small screen in 2019 with Netflix’s mystery drama The Society.

That underrated series had a killer cast, but was canceled after only one season when the COVID-19 pandemic halted production on its second season. With any luck, HBOMax’s upcoming series The Shore will fare a little better when the show reunites Keyser with the star of The Lincoln Lawyer 32 years after their first collaboration.
