HBO has had no shortage of successful projects to hit the small screen this year, and the show dominating the world right now is the third season of House of the Dragon. The Game of Thrones spin-off show is ending after Season 3, and after a divisive ending to Season 2 back in 2024, most fans agree that, through two episodes, the series is back on the right track. House of the Dragon Season 3 isn’t the first Game of Thrones spin-off to air this year, though. The other, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has another season on the way next year. HBO also brought back its flagship medical drama, The Pitt, for another season, and the studio is hard at work right now filing the third season, which will air next January.
HBO has had so many massively popular shows over the years that it’s almost impossible to nail down its biggest property. Shows such as The Sopranos and The Wire would certainly get plenty of votes if you were to conduct a random poll, but another hugely popular HBO show to emerge just in the last 12 years is True Detective. The first season of True Detective, in particular, is widely hailed as one of the greatest seasons of TV ever made. This is largely due to the electric performances from Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who will reunite later this year for a new Apple TV series, Brothers. Before fans head to Apple TV to see the True Detective reunion, though, they’re rewatching the original series in droves over on HBO Max, which has led it back into the platform’s top 10 most-watched titles.

What Do We Know About ‘True Detective’ Season 5?
Very little is known about the next season of True Detective at this time, but it has been reported that Nicolas Cage will be one of the leads in the new story. During the promotional tour for Spider-Noir, Cage confirmed that he had discussions with HBO about starring in the show, but that he never signed anything, so nothing is official. HBO Max boss Casey Bloys has also played coy about the status of the next season of True Detective, but it’s good to know that it’s at least still in development.
