Hogwarts Legacy proved to be a hugely successful release for Avalanche Studios and Warner Bros, shattering all of their sales expectations to become the third most played single-player release in the history of the PlayStation 5, where there’s some pretty stiff competition.
That said, it was undoubtedly a game that has its flaws, and there’s plenty of room for improvement in the sequel, which is currently under development at the same studios. In the meantime, the extensive modding community continues to do an unbelievable job of improving the existing product, and there’s one in particular you’ll almost certainly want for your next playthrough.
Hogwarts Legacy Players Can Now Fight Dementors
Over on Curse Forge, you can find the mod page for Expecto Patronum, a download that adds the titular spell to the game, as well as all of the appropriate enemies that you can fight with it. Anyone who has even a passing interest in Harry Potter will know about the spell, and the fact it wasn’t included in the base game is a bit of an oversight.
It’s actually a much bigger mod than you might expect, adding a ton of features beyond just the new spell. The full list is as follows:
- New spell “Expecto Patronum” added.
- New explorable area in the Forbidden Forest.
- New enemy types: Dark Wizards
- New boss type: Dementor
- New voiced companion: Beebub Flipendo
- 5 voiced and motion/facial captured cutscenes.
- New music (boss battle score)
- Assigned Patronus based on player choices with option to select preferred Patronus.
Even better than that, picking up the spell and adding it to your abilities even comes with some appropriate lore. To get it, you’ll need to meet a new student in the Hogwarts Library who makes a mysterious discovery in an old spellbook. From there, you’ll need to head into the Forbidden Forest to unlock all of the info you’ll need, and there will be plenty of threats along the way while you do.
Hogwarts Legacy Modders Are Keeping The Game Alive
With the sequel on the way at some point relatively soon, Hogwarts Legacy’s extensive modding community has done an amazing job of keeping the game alive. From adding entirely new questlines to filling out what is an otherwise sparse open-world, it really has proved to be a great foundation for the creative work of the community. Let’s hope the next game in the series continues that trend in earnest.
