For all of its faults, Hogwarts Legacy managed to tap into the nostalgic fandom of a generation of fans of the Wizarding World, turning into an enormous success for Warner Bros. and Avalanche Studios, despite all of the justifiable controversies that surround the IP thanks to the very public comments of its creator.
Though the developer has now very much moved on from the first game in favor of developing the sequel and getting that out to players as soon as possible, the community is very much still locked in on exploring the halls of Hogwarts and the surrounding grounds.
Happily, the game is actually receiving support from an external source, as Nvidia continues to roll out graphical tech that should help the game perform better on systems that might otherwise struggle.
Hogwarts Legacy Just Got A Major Graphics Boost
As first reported by TweakTown, Nvidia has rolled out the second portion of its DLSS 4.5 update for GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards, with the key feature being DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation with up to 6X Multi Frame Generation.
Essentially, the tech allows the cards to generate additional frames in between the genuine frames rendered for the games, with the aim being to improve visual smoothness, particularly on very high refresh rate displays. In practice, the card will only generate as many frames as it needs to, though there are still some obvious points of controversy in what are essentially “imagined” frames.
Hogwarts Legacy is one of the games that is set to try and take full advantage of the latest tech, though we’ll need some time to let it bed in before we can see exactly how successfully it manages to do this.
NVIDIA’s DLSS 4.5 Has Launched
In explaining this next step in the process, Nvidia shared the following statement about their intentions, “By continuously monitoring the gap between your GPU’s performance and your display’s maximum refresh rate, the system adapts in real-time. In graphically intense scenarios, it ‘upshifts’ and increases frame generation to bridge performance dips, ensuring your high-refresh display remains buttery smooth. Conversely, as the workload lightens, it seamlessly shifts the multiplier down to only compute what’s needed.”
It’s important to note that this isn’t the highly controversial DLSS 5, which really did do an absolute number on some iconic artwork in recent video games. That’s a little way off, so let’s hope Nvidia rows back on that one somewhat before everyone in Hogwarts Legacy ends up looking 45 years old.
